Are all houses the same ??? If so what year do they differ

No, there are two different housings. One has a big offset and a different carrier to accommodate highway gears. Many parts are interchangeable up to 1996. After that the axle spline count and some other features changed. FABO has a lot of good info on these rears and what interchanges.

Depends which carrier you have. The lesser offset housing can use jeep gears, i believe they start at 3.55 or 3.54:1 and lower.

I have one out of a 1976 dart I wanted to put 390s in it

If the original gear in the Dart rear end was a 2:45 or a 2:76, you probably won't be able to put the 3:90 gears on the carrier. If it originally had a 2:91, a 3:21, or a 3:55, your probably good to go. Gene

The center housing is the same. It is the differential that is different. I was told that the 2,45 gear had its own diff carrier, the 2.71 and higher number gears used a different differential.

I told you. Two different housings. One has a snout that is more offset than the other to accommodate a huge highway ring gear. Both have different carriers that do not directly interchange. Go to FABO like I told you and read, plenty of material that will answer all of your questions..

So I just got off the phone with Dr. dif He says All Housing are the same however there is a different carrier two to be exact Carriers that have 220 gear ratios and 240 All other gear ratios are interchangeable If you have gear ratios that are 223 and 241s Change the carrier out Can you can put any. 2.45 and 2.24 have a carrier with a bigger offset as mentioned. 2.71 to 4.56 are the same. 27 spline axles from '69 to '96. '97 up are 29 spline

I used a center section from a 8 1/4 dakota in my dart 8 1/4. The carrier bearings are stay with the carrier, meaning the darts carrier bearings wont fit on the dakotas carrier, and reverse wise.

I've found limited slip 8 1/4 rear ends from the early 70s in A & B bodies through the mid 90s in Dakotas.
Posi is a GM term. The early Mopar both wheel drive until a specific torque was met were called Sure Grips. The modern stuff is called Limited Slip, and how they function has changed over the years. I've not seen a Sure Grip in an 8 1/4, all I've seen were Limited Slip. Might have been some 8 1/4 Sure Grips made, I've just not seen any. Gene
