aftermarket billit thermostat housing for big blocks ? - 05/06/19 02:36 PM

i'm looking for an aftermarket thermostat housing, the billet type with an O-ring seal.
upon searching the usual places, it seems the ones offered are generic chevy parts when you read the fine print. i know they will physically bolt up, but when i inquired to several vendors, they [for some reason] couldn't supply me with the O-ring diameter.
does anyone know of a vertical [not swivel] billet housing that will correctly fit a thermostat, and bolt to an aluminum water pump housing with a 2" diameter thermostat hole ?
TIA ! bow

Don't know about the O-ring type but Napa sells a nice OE replacement for like $7... Whatever U do avoid that chunky chrome china job they warp & leak badly..

Just my $0.02... wink

I'm pretty sure this is the one I bought for my small block. I haven't run the engine yet to see if it seals. I did notice that once the housing was tightened down, the thermostat was still a little loose. The stock thermostat housing holds the thermostat tight. Not sure if this is a big deal or not. I did add a little sealer to the perimeter of the thermostat and it doesn't move now.

We have removed several of the chrome ones at my shop, they are always warped. We thought customers were over tightening them until I resurfaced one, it was so soft it clogged my 12" disc sander. They are dead soft! That billit one Mancini sells works good.

On a side note: confirm it is flat & don't overtorque. One place I would use "the right stuff" cement WITH a thin gasket.

I went with this set-up http://www.terrysautolab.com/

Billet, and uses an o-ring not made in China either works great and no more leaks.

duster, that almost looks like a chevy housing with an adapter ? i know there are several housings out there that claim to be for our mopars, but on closer inspection in the details, it says "universal chevy". i know the chevy t-stat is smaller, so a couple outfits i contacted for dimensions, they claimed their supplier didn't have these available, and one said the OD of the O-ring was 2.25. that would just cover the housing hole, which is 2", and i wouldn't feel comfortable with it being that close.

This is the one I used on my wife 440 Six Pack engine with polished PRW aluminum housing.

Installed dry with no sealant and hasn't leaked a drop in 3 years.

I've used a couple of the 440source billet ones, I can't remember if they are o ring but the seal good.
