Dewalt air compressor?

Anyone have any experience with Dewalt air compressors? Sale going on locally and was curious if they are any good? Just looking at the 60 gallon 3.7hp single stage. Should be plenty for me. Thanks

The low HP will work it pretty hard. Most 60 gal have 5 HP at least. Also, is it 110v or 220v and if 220 do you have that available wherever you're putting it?

Also, its likely some other make with the DeWalt name on it - could be the same Harbor Freight sells for all you know.

I don't own one of their compressors but table saw, compound miter saw, drills, impacts, you name it. All quality stuff. A compressor is a pretty simple tool and comes with a brand new tested tank. Keep it drained and keep the pump oiled correctly and it's a pretty much lifetime service. I have a wheel barrel Emglo and it'll run on 220 or 115 and I've had it for 25 years and have only checked the oil in the pump and kept the tanks drained.

It's 220 and I'm wired for it. It would just have occasional weekend use. Yeah not sure on the quality but might take a chance. Thanks guys

I have had mine for about 6 months and so far so good,it is much quieter than the Kobalt it replaced.

The smaller "pancake" style compressors are built in the Jackson Tn. plant I believe. But, I don't know about the larger units.

All that kind of 60 and 80 gallon compressors are all pretty much identical as far as quality and specs. They're only made by a small hand full of manufacturers and then others slap their names on them. If it's what you want for a good price go for it. Don't worry too much about HP look at the CFM. You usually see different compressor manufacturers using different HP numbers even tho the motors are the same.

Can't be 100% sure, but the larger 2-stage / consumer grade unit is made by MAT holdings and re-branded. If you look at the specs, and components they are identical to Industrial Air, Sanborn, Dewalt, etc. etc.

There are *very* few compressors that use 100% American parts. Especially the types that most of us can/want to afford. The HF units are built in USA, but use an Italian pump and Century motor (Ohio company, however built in Mexico).

There are tons of 60 gallon / single stage compressors out there with <5 HP motors. Not everyone needs that much CFM for hobby stuff.

It doesn't sound like you are running a body shop and know exactly your intended use. I say go for it if you believe it is a good deal. Like others said, maintain it, and it will likely be fine for a long time.

I bought one of Dewalts 30 gallon 120v/240v compressors when I first moved into my house. I wasn't wired up for 220 yet and figured it would be big enough for all my needs. It has worked GREAT. The only place it struggles is with painting....I painted my car this winter. It kept up applying the color just fine until but when we got to the clear coat and it had a hard time keeping up which ended up creating more orange peel (just had to wet sand more). Its been a great air compressor (Going on 6 years) and I'd buy another dewalt, but I'd def get a 60 gal next time. Before I paint my next car I will have a bigger air compressor, but who knows when that will be.
