Torn lower ball joint boot? - 04/14/19 12:45 AM

I got one side of the dart back together today, doing the front end rebuild and K-H brake swap. I did have a problem and that was trying to get the freaking dust boot seated on the lower ball joint which are moog brand. I FINALLY found a piece of PVC pipe the right size and smacked it on using the pipe, but i did tear one of the boots, so im held up from doing the other side until i can figure out how to get another boot without buying another whole lower ball joint..anyone know where i can get that correct boot? I really do NOT want to put on a torn boot..

You can get replacement boots in the Help section of the local parts store. I had to get one myself.

It should fit. Summit carries poly boots if that interests you.

ell, i got the new energy suspension ball joint boots and dont know if i should use them or just glue the tear in the moog boot. The reason im pondering it is because the energy suspension boot just sits over the ball joint and doesnt actually seal around the bottom like the moog boot does, so the grease can just come right out the bottom...anyone used these from energy suspension and had good luck with them? here is a pic of the torn moog boot that actually seals to the bottom of the ball joint and you can see the rip.

Save the money and effort by passing on those dorman help universal junk things, in about 3 months it will be cracked and falling apart.

I have the same rip in one of mine ! As far as the ES boots just "sitting there", there should be enough tension in the material to keep the boot seated, grease in and dirt out. The grease feeds in from the bottom of the BJ so the grease in the boot serves little purpose. Assemble the front end, lube it, clean up the mess and drive it.

Shipping is free if you amass $100 or more of stuff.

Look around bet you can do that easy there.

Or $4.78 to me if I am not in a hurry
