Who makes correct generic looking 440ci tall valve covers - 03/16/19 07:20 PM

My 1970 Charger has a period correct 1970 block and I'd like to keep it looking as original (as possible) but my oversize rockers do not fit under my 1970 valve covers.

I have a decent set of chrome (Milodon) valve covers and they look cool but not 70's correct.

Does anyone make a set of tall valve covers without embossed lettering and something that looks relatively generic (correct) that I can paint engine hemi orange to match my motor.

If there is noting available, do I just cut the baffle out of my current valve covers?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Would those Uber-thick 1/4” gaskets get you the clearance?

How about these from Indy Cylinder Head? Says they're tall and fit stock or Indy heads. I've thought about buying a set just because of the added rigidity.

Reuse your valve covers and put spacers under them.

$130 for spacers? shock

Summit has a plain (but polished) cast aluminum valve cover too. Summit Linky

I'm sure with some effort you can find ones cheaper than that.

In the comments for the Summit covers is this gem

"Good valve covers, good quality. Only problem they do not clear aftermarket rocker shaft. "

I didn't see that comment at Summit. That seems like it would be an error on the buyer as Summit clearly shows the dimensions of the cover. hammer

That's the problem with a lot of comments on Summit's stuff. Operator error. Either they ordered the wrong size, didn't install it correctly or once in a blue moon the part was defective. Been dealing with Summit for 20 years and never had a problem but have seen plenty of people blame them for their own stupidity.

Not sure how operator error applies to a valve cover fitting or not fitting an aftermarket rocker shaft.

Also int eh comments is the inside dimension, that might help the OP decide if it might work.

Exactly. Have no idea what problem he is trying to solve.

And depending on what the problem is, there are usually ways to solve it without buying new valve covers.

How about these billet valve covers? Do they look stock enough for you?

I have the no-logo Indy cast covers, and they required some clearancing to fit over the ends of my aftermarket rocker arm shafts because they're slightly longer. No big deal, took a few minutes with a Dremel rotary grinder to create some small "channels" deep & wide enough to let the vcs slide over the rocker shafts.

I am going to be the guy who talks about what folks did before there were any fancy speed parts.

Take two sets of valve covers, cut the first pair say 2" from the flange, cut the second pair 1" from the flange, then weld or braze the top from the
second pair on to the first pair, and presto.

Note I wouldn't actually do this...I would just get something else and wouldn't sweat whether it has a stock appearance quite so much.

I have no logo Indy covers on rpm heads, with comp pro magnum rockers, no clearance issues.

Don't remember where I saw this but someone took a pair of the Aluminum Moroso covers and Hammer-and-dollied the "letters" flat then painted 'em.

I have the Summit brand cast valve covers with RAS shafts and holdowns on Indy EZ heads and they fit with some slight trimming and enlarging the holes

I've only used factory valve covers and have used Isky, Crower, Crane ductile iron, Cane Aluminum 1.6, and Comp Pro Magnums rockers with only minor baffle work to the VC.
