What those two intelligent men said...

If you are wanting to clean it up Id start with evaporust or a brass bristle brush and a gentle hand

Whats that from?

Its really difficult to tell if that's rust or orange peeling black paint.

My best guess so far is this

V6X V8X EN1
M21 N23 D?? V21
51 G11 G36 J5?
G4X9 12 4 1802
4 566

EV2 = Hemi Orange Exterior Color
C4X9 = Trim - Vinyl Split Bench Seat = Black
TX9 = Black Upper Door Frames
418 = Scheduled Production Build Date = April, 18 1972
411902 = Order number
EV2 = Hemi Orange Roof Color
U = USA Specifications
A51 = Duster "Twister" Package
G11 = Tinted Glass (all)
G36 = OS Dual Racing Mirrors
J54 = Sport Hood

M25 = Wide sill moldings
L31 = Hood/Fender Mounted Turn Signals
M21 = Roof drip rail moldings
N23 = Electronic Ignition System
R11 = Radio Solid State AM (2 Watts)
V21 = Performance Hood Treatment

V6X = Body Side Stripes, Black

Re: How to get code off this fender tag ? - 02/19/19 07:11 PM

soak it in vinegar

Re: How to get code off this fender tag ? - 02/19/19 07:29 PM

I'm afraid that acid like vinegar will dissolve the rust which is all that's left of certain areas.

Sounds like it was a cool car for a budget model.

I'd degrease it and spray what you have with clear polyurethane. Then store it safely along with a copy or two of the translation AND some really good digital photos. That way if you decide it has collector value you'll have as much as possible of the original plate.

Thanks guys, that's amazing on how you all did that. What do you think production numbers (how Many) are? How many of these were made?

Very grateful for all the help

If you decide to soak it to remove the rust I'd recommend Evaporust not acid (vinegar). Also, Dan's tag decipher may be more accurate concerning the L25 vs M25. Does your car have a trunk light? Rocker moldings?

I feel pretty good with what I had pre back of tag pics. That thing was difficult to read at best. Awesome job to those that got the whole thing.

To 6bblgt how did you make that “white fender plate image”?

If ever there was a car that needed a new fender tag made.

What’s the rest of the car look like?

Yes car has trunk lite. It does not have on it (currently) rocker moldings but that not to say they weren't there, I would have to check and see if there is clips there that might have held them on at one time.

Is there a big difference between L25 and M25?

L25 is the code for the trunk light option (which your picture shows it has) so my guess at the M25 is most likely incorrect, Dan's L25 code makes the most sense as I don't see any signs of moldings on your car.

That car looks way better than what I thought it would based on that tag. I would’ve bought it.

Scott, since we're trying to help him decipher his codes properly, I need to correct you. As you know, "H" would be the 340 engine code. "B" as the 7th digit would be the plant code for Hamtramck, not "H".
