Can I use the A833 E-body shifter location in my 1969 B-body

Can I use the A833 E-body shifter location in my 1969 B-body - 02/01/19 01:09 AM

Hey guys, I want to move the shifter location back for my 1969 Daytona clone I'm building for Bonneville. I want to use the short E-body style shifter lever to shorten the throws. Will the shifter linkage clear the trans crossmember, and are there any other problems caused by doing this? Thanks.

I use the E-body shifter location on my Savoy because it just felt better for racing. I used a Super Shifter linkage and shifter mount with that raised the shifter to go above the trans crossmember.
I have a spare bracket and the forward gear linkage but you would need to get the reverse rod.

I will got to my other computer and see if I still have some pics of it saved. I used the same shifter location with a 5-speed Richmond box that I ran as well.

Come on now, Mopar made all them B body noodle shifters cool whistling grin
What would probably work better, if you can find one is a A body factory style SS shifter for the B body trans in them up
That type shifter had a L shape adapter that bolt to the stock tail shaft mount and the shifter bolted on to the rear of the L mount near the rear of the tailshaft housing up scope
You can redrill the holes for the rod ends on the shifter arms closer to the shift lever centers to shorten the travel, old SS and Stock racer tricks devil wrench

So Gus, is the 1964 B-body the same? I think I'm ok with the shifter I have, but the only way to go above the crossmember is to have the linkage in the car with me. I was wondering if the linkage would go through the crossmember, above the trans mount, beside the transmission. Thanks.
Cab, thanks for the tips on redrilling the linkage.

The 1970 B-body shifter mechanism has longer fingers on it to shorten the throw if you want to keep it in the factory location.

I’m not sure if they are still available but I’ve still have one or two that I have bought from old cars that were raced. The b bodies used an arm that bolted to the stock b body location and moved the shifter back about 6” and over a couple so it lined up better with the trans levers. It may have moved it up some as well. All the rods would be inside the car like an e body and over the crossmember. You could get them in a verti-gate or super shifter. You would need to cut the back of the hump out and extend it to cover the rods. It makes a b body shift much easier.

Bigblockdart.com has a tech page where guys have made an adapter to put an A body shifter onto a b/e body trans. It uses the E body shifter mount location but positions the shifter about midway between the B body mount and E body mount. I think you'd still need to do some surgery on the floor tunnel but perhaps not as serious as the old Hurst bracket for mounting an A body shifter onto a B body trans.
