1971 GTX Registry

1971 GTX Registry - 01/23/19 04:48 AM

Does someone run such a thing, 1971 GTX Registry. An owner of a 1971 GTX 440-6 Gold in color with a build date of July 9th, 1971 was asking if his was one of the last GTXs built and one of the last 440-6 Xs built. I do not have the plant it was built in or the serial number but he lives in New Jersey. He bought the GTX in July of 1972.Even if there is no registry does anyone have information on any GTXs built in July of 1971.

No way to know which one was the last one built since actual build dates were not recorded on the tags or broadcast sheets & complete plant records are not available.

Let me rephrase this again. The owner just wanted to know how long in the production year a GTX could be built looking at the SPD of a fender tag or broadcast sheet. He does not care if his is the first or last. If there are others with a later SPD then likely the time of this build would be later than his in July. Looking at this he could have a guess at how later the 1971 GTX build with a 440-6 went to in July. Looking at the 1971 Hemi E body build the last SPD for an E Body with a Hemi is 616. I am fully aware that this is just a date on a Metal Tag and Piece of Paper assigned by Chrysler and the time the vehicle was built was likely a different date. So I ask does anyone have a GTX that has a SPD of July 9, 1971 or later. Does anyone have a SPD for a 1971 440-6 GTX with a July 9, or later.

I run a registry for 71-72 Plymouth B bodies including GTXs. I'll look over my records and see what I have. If I recall correctly, July 9 is the last day I show for SPDs.

How does one find your registry?

The 1971 X is 440-6 Auto 410 Dana Air Grabber PS PB Rallye Wheels, I believe it is Gold Leaf ext. and Beige Int. He added a Wing and factory louvers and tint in the 70s. I will look up your email and have him send some information on the car.

I saw this car at Carlisle back in the mid 2000s. At that time it belonged to the 2nd owner Philip. I assume ownership is still the same?

So to confirm, the latest SPD I have for 71 GTXs is 709. Same for 71 runners. I do have many GTX vins with higher numbers than his, mostly U code cars, but one V code also.

What month do their Mylar door stickers show compared to the SPD?

(If the Mylars & fender tags are known to be originals of course)

The owner has the same name so it must be the same car and person. I got some picture sent to me on it but I still can not post pictures on moparts for some reason that I can not figure out, maybe firewall or moparts who knows. Barry I will ask for a picture of the door tag. It might of had a repaint or touch up but I believe the doors and door jams were not painted and I hope the tag is still in good shape on the car. I am interested in when Chrysler decided to end production of Hemis and 440-6 in all bodies and I would have to also see when all plant ended production in 1971. I remember in the old days that Holidays were at the end of July the last two weeks. Some other plants had the last week of July first week of August for shut down. At the end of my Working Career it was changed to the first two weeks of July, not sure if other automotive plants followed the same time frame for shut down. You would think there would be memos going out to Zones and Dealers and the Plants telling them you have to order these types of motor by this date. There also must be some interdepartmental in plant memos telling the line that this is the time that the last one is to be built and to have all those parts that are related to those motors cleaned up and put in a spot to either ship them to a warehouse or have them scrapped.

Barry the Mylar date is 7-71 and is original to the car.
