1987 Dakota Column Shift Linkage

1987 Dakota Column Shift Linkage - 01/12/19 04:52 AM

I have an '87 Dakota 6 cylinder with automatic transmission. After getting back from a trip, I went to back in my driveway. When I put it in reverse, the truck stayed in drive and the column shifter had no effect on changing gears. A closer inspection revealed that the rod had come loose from the bracket as shown in the picture.

The question is, what does the part look like or what is the part number and what is the part called that I need to reattach the shifter rod to the bracket?

The groove in the rod looks too wide to accept a snap ring or e-clip.

Thanks.

Those sturdy grommets get old and do break. There are different colored ones etc, some available at parts stores.

You have half of what holds it on still there. That plastic bushing is it. Just part of it is gone. Rockauto has it

Or you local parts people should be able to order the ATP part number TO41.

Thanks, Supercuda. That's the part. I found one in stock at the dealer yesterday and the truck is back in service. Chrysler part number is 5211845. Chrysler description is Gromet-TR 202D. Thanks again for the help.

great to hear you found it. I didn't figure the dealer would have one, good to hear it.

Used on many applications from the mid 70's through early 00's.

The first dealer I went to, which is about 10 miles from my house, didn't have any in stock, but could see on the computer, that another dealer had four in stock. So I drove another 20 miles to that dealer to get it. The second dealer told me what 135sohc said above, that there are lots of applications over a span of more than 25 years.

BTW, Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep sales must be doing well. This large dealer was literally packed with customers Saturday morning, and it looked like every sales person was busy working deals. Lots of people were test driving new Jeeps.
