Re-manufactured Transmission Quality?

I'm dealing with a 2004 Sebring that needs a transmission. It's has the 3.0 engine, automatic transmission. It is a somewhat trouble prone Mitsubishi transmission. It was only used for 2 or 3 years, so finding one is proving difficult.

Advance Auto Parts and Auto Zone have rebuilt transmissions for $1600 - $1800. I believe the transmission from Advance has a 3 year, 75,000 mile warranty. Does anyone have any thoughts on the quality and durability of these re-manufactured transmissions.

Find someone that sells a Jasper or Certified Transmission unit.

We used a few from Advanced at the shop.Never had a problem.IIRC they were remaned by a major company.Cheaper because they order a lot.Rocky

Can't speak for yours, but a friend bought a reman 46RE from advanced and didn't have a problem for the 3ish years he kept it. I wouldn't be afraid to go that route...

It’s “Advance”, not Advanced . I work part-time there, I’ve not seen any transmissions returned.

One thing I will mention is that in my experiance, is that the biggest reasons for failure of a reman unit, is a clogged, or dirty cooler in the radiator. If you do not flush your cooler with the proper equipment or replace the radiator, it will destroy your new trans, no matter who built it. I used to do bench overhauls for a couple local shops, I no longer so because the shops refused to buy decent flushing equipment. Blowing lines with an air hose is not flushing a cooler.

I put one of Advance Auto Parts remanufactued transmissions in my Dodge Diplomat years ago. It worked great and still does. I think it was an 999 with the lockup convertor.

We have had ok luck with autozone remans. Dodge rwd trannys I re-build my own self and am shocked at what I see in the ones marked mopar reman. I commonly see the wrong planetariums and wrong number of clutches in those like the diesel ones getting lighter duty gas parts probably because they just had them sitting around in the factory, it is no wonder they got such a reputation as bad trannys, the re-mans dont last as long as the factory ones and the factory ones usually fail as a result of bad maintenance. The auto zone ones probably last longer as they put the right stuff in them because they dont just have stuff laying around.
