2009 P0440 Evap recover general failure - 12/31/18 11:14 PM

Ok replaced cap, no help, now what is most likely to go for next? I have printed 20pgs or so from my TechAuthority CD and AllData. But need to know what is most likely the issue before wasting time and finding the problem last.

Much appreciated!

Jim.

Oh, yeah, RAM 1500 5.7, 4WD, auto.

I just had my PT in for the same thing today. Turned out to be a crack in the evap canister.

Check all evap hoses for cracks and nibbles from mice and squirrels if it sits outside. Some of the new hose is made with soy base oil, rodents love it.

Mine turned to be a leaking ESIM, only found by doing a smoke check.

Thanks all, making a list. Not a problem but hate not having remote start and warm-up when it's cold.

my 14 1500 has the same problem. took it to the dealer. paid for a hour of check out and had it smoke tested. found rodent damage to the vent line that goes to the purge valve. its not covered under warranty.$998.65 to fix it. the line is part of the fuel tank. so I took it home and I am going to splice the line with rubber hose to fix it. thank god I have a lift. it will make the job a lot easier.

Believe it or not most insurance companies pay for proven rodent damage. You need to decide if it is worth turning in or not. I would wipe some dino oil or something on the lines and wiring. I saw one where squirrels ate the line, part of the nipple on the valve and the wiring, guy turned it in and his insurance paid for it.

I think that Rams have it under the bed by the gas tank.

I had the same issue with my 06 Ram. Replaced hoses, purge valve, etc. No help. I would occasionally smell gas around the fuel filler area at times. I finally found the top of the fuel pump module was cracked in many places. Replaced it and no more problems.

Last week my daughter said her car wasn`t running well and the check engine light came on. I found the wire to the O2 sensor was completely chewed through in two places.
