I use SEM 15013 Landau Black for all my interior parts. Dash pads, door panels etc. Looks the closest to original shade of black. Never had it flake or fall off if the vinyl is cleaned good.

I have used the landau black as well. It gives a legitimate look. But SEM is a paint, not a dye. I don't think you can dye vinyl, it's not porous like fabric.

What are you using that acts like a primer for the vinyl before spraying
the vinyl paint?

SEM makes a cleaner and adhesion promoter to use prior to color.

For any vinyl or plastic, you need to get it squeaky clean. I use POR Marine Clean. That stuff will wash the spots off a leopard and it’s non toxic. Follow it up with SEM Adhesion Promoter and follow up IMMEDIATELY with the Landau black. It will stick like crazy. If you have a detail gun, get a quart of SEM mixed for you. use that. Much better than the rattle can.
