Heard there was a difference from a 71-72 Dodge charger air grabber hoods, something with the vent cut outs on the back end of the hood?

First 71 half got a large grill from side to side. Second 71 half and all 72s got a small blank space on grill in the middle.

That's valid to all hoods, not just for the AG hood

so a 72 should have the small space in between the vents no matter the build date?

Yeap

The full length of the grill is the same betwen both, but just late half 71s and ALL 72s got this blank space, about 2 and a half inches wide

We are sure that is a absolute fact? No 72s came with the hood RJS has pictured?

If we consider the large grill setup was gone on the same 71 year, well, shouldn't exist 72s with that splitted grill... however is there a chance some 72 with RC hood could get a 71 due the low production of these and they had to kill the stock? Maybe there is a chance some 72 got a 71... dunno

Is just an opinion

I don't know the cut-off but believe that would be a later style.
The pictured hood on my car is B03 Nov. 3 1970

Model year production started in August so March would be around mid-year production wise.
I had a 72 RR built in August 71 that had a lot of 71 "only" stuff.
Left front inner fender well
front floor pan
rear foot well pan
deck lid.
front bumper
quarter glass
So yes they did burn up last years inventory.

The reason I asked is that the hood is the early style and original to that car

The change over date for the "gap" hood would not be something you could nail down to a specific date without taking in consideration, plant, and body style and air grabber option. for example st louis was building a lot more B-bodys thank Lynch road, so they could run out early. also many more flat hoods were being used so charger 500's and SE's could have the gaped hood sooner than super bees and R/T's. and since the ramcharger was a rare option. they could be the last to get the gap.

I have an original paint STL built 416 charger 500 that has the gap.
