Crayon and chalk mark illustrations - 08/21/18 02:04 AM

Where does one find a book or illustrations showing the different crayon and chalk marks that were used by the inspectors?

Best source for those is to look for them on your own car, because no two cars will ever be exactly the same.

Right, it varies between plant, model year ,shift, assembly line ,worker, etc. The best thing to do is preasure wash everything first , not sandblast .
Then photo document what YOU find on YOUR car . Then you can duplicate it
as part of the restoration process .

Thanks guys, unfortunately the car was already "restored" previously by others and I just wanted to add some of the markings to the valve covers, door jams, firewall trunk, etc.

100% correct.

It's always amazed me how many people think that all the inspection marks will be identical on every car. laugh2

It was done by many different people who worked inspection on different times during assembly production.

Inspection marks are like any other aspect of restoring a car. Paint, tires, interior, and now inspector marks. No difference. You can't condemn someone for buying a shell of a car and putting seat-covers or carpet or copying the orange peel on the body paint. None of this is as the factory made it. It is just the level of detail the owner wants to achieve. I doubt the OP is attempting to fool someone into believing he has a survivor Hemi Car with zero miles that he has "Doctored". I applaud people that take their car to the next level. It is more impressive than a "Restored" car with a Sears battery, worm clamps and radials. I won't laugh at a car owner with those parts.

If your looking for a general idea of things and your question is about your car in your screen name pic you might look on the site here at the survivor 70 v code runner and maybe get with him.

I dont see how anyone might really think your trying to pull any bs but if you do duplicate any oem marking on such a nice car id be dang sure your not putting incorrect info on them.

I dont recall any holy grail markings on a 70 v code runner that would impact much.

laugh2 Reading the title of this post "Crayon and chalk mark illustrations" I got a completely different image in my head. As a Toolmaker in an assembly plant for 38 years, I can't tell you how many times an engineer (and I use that title loosely" has handed me a sketch that was magic marker on a napkin and asked me to make this. spank

Uh, speaking as an engineer, that is termed a "field sketch". grin
