65 torque converter seal??

Is the torque converter seal and the filter kit the same for the 65 727 Push Button tranny as for the 66 and up seal and kit.

What do the parts book show? Mopar change the converter, pump and gears in the pump in 1967 and up
They also did away with the rear pump when they switch the shifting linkage to external away from the cables in 1966
Call one of the better Hi Po tranny and converter company and ask them if the 1962 to 1966 converter interchange and order the seal from them

IF you are talking front pump seal, they are the same 62 up.

I think the 65 has a rear pump (can you push start a 65?) IF so, you should install a 62-65 filter. This early filter has an extra hole for oil pickup for rear pump.

SportF nailed it. 100% correct. You don't want to use the one hole filter on a valve body made for the two hole/rear pump style application.

Seals remain dimensionally the same from 1962 - 2008 for all 727/46/47/48 transmissions.
The later style has helical lips in the ID that helps "pump" fluid in to the trans to prevent leakage.

Many of the single hole filters currently available still have the extra hole in the internal metal frame. Probe with your finger tip and, if the hole is there, trim away the fabric with an X-acto knife to expose the second hole.
This gives the benefit of using the later filters with an increased filter area on the early trans. Won't work on the very early pans with a drain plug.

Thanks for all the replies.. I forgot about the rear pump on pre 66 tranys. I would of just got a 727 filter kit and not had the 2nd hole. Basically That is why I checked before I ordered one from NAPA. Most places show same one from 62 up in there parts books.

john, thanks for the pic comparing the two filters and having the second hole needed for the rear pump in the later filters. i never would have thought of looking for that. thanks again !

I remember changing the fluid and filter on my hundred dollar 65 Chrysler Newport, but it had a column shift. Does that mean either filter would have worked equally well on it?
