Converting 67 GTX to disk brakes

Converting 67 GTX to disk brakes - 03/13/18 08:10 PM

I'd like to convert my 67 GTX to front disk brakes using original parts, not aftermarket. I'm familiar with doing this conversion on A-bodies but haven't done it on a B-body before. I'm hoping to find someone selling the complete assemblies but wasn't sure if I will need to find a set that includes upper and/or lower control arms or not. Will I need to change the upper and/or lower control arms for this conversion?

There are some aftermarket kits that offer factory reproduction components as well as OEM components for a factory type install, or you can hunt for vintage OE parts, used, new, rebuilt, NOS...

you need to decide early on if 67 period correct is your goal or larger factory updated components are desired? that way you can be pointed in the direction you seek

67 period correct is how I would like to do it.

If you have 15" rims why go through the trouble and only put 10" disc on when 11" disc is available?

The 67 disc parts are hard to find.

OK I guess easy to find but at crazy prices.
I have a 67 hemi GTX and I used brakes from a '69.

I would give doc diff a call. He can set you up with everything you need.
He also will ask tell you which stock booster to use if you want power brakes.

There's always ebay, if you haven't looked, before you asked.
But, $$$$$$$$$$$

I used a-body spindles from the early 70s; the 10" rotors (including bearings & seals), calipers w/ pads, 15/16th master cylinder for disc/drums all from early 70s b-bodies . Biggest expense was getting custom hoses from Dr. Diff; very nice units, worth the price. Cost me about $200-250. Did this conversion about 12 years ago. Works nice; parts are easy to buy for maintenance. For me, this is as close as I'll get to factory style disc brakes for a '67 GTX.

if factory stock is your only desire ,,,then your only option is seek out the original 1967 thru 1969 parts.
Not an easy task by any means , but definitely do able with time and effort on your part

ANY other option I would use the later model A body stuff

What's wrong with the 70/74 E, and 71/72 B body stuff?

I'm using a set off a 74-75 A-body. Cheap and bolts right on.

Nothing, bolts right on, just that the calipers are 2 pin/single piston, the 70-2 E/B will use the 2 piece rotor, the 73-4 E use the unicast rotor, OP wants to stay with 67 OEM
