Good polished alumium cleaner and wax? - 03/07/18 02:54 AM

I'm putting together a hemi motor that has a set of polished cast aluminum valve covers, I had to clean them inside and out to get the polishing residue out and I need to find a good polish and wax for them to clean and protect them.
I have a can Neverdul but I'm wondering if there is better stuff to use on them help
Thanks in advance for the help up

Autosol is the best in my book for a paste, but if your looking to just spruce them up, Wenol or mothers alum polish, followed by a paste wax.

I use Wenol and Mother's metal polish. I think they both work well. Also go to the nearest truckstop. Check out their selection of aluminum polish. Truckers don't want to spend lots of time rubbing their tanks..... They have some good stuff there. Sorry I don't know the names.

Just bought and using "speedy all metal polish" on a set of american slots. Bought on-line as I could not find it near me. I first found it at a truck stop. I believe it's made from buffing compound in a solvent based wax. I used it with 4-0 steel wool, and then buffing with nubs.
Pretty easy to use and I like that it's a solvent based product. I'd be careful using wax on valve covers due to heat issues.
There is a product I've seen, but have not tried called opti metal coat that a local paint shop has literature on, but no reports of buyers. Seems it's like a chemical clear coat that bonds to the metal and is great for non-cleared (open) aluminum.

I have used meguires paste wax on not only chrome, but polished alum valve covers throughout the years with zero issues. Im only speaking from my experiences. Quite honestly, once you use a higher grade polish, most people are pretty much done at that point and are satisfied with the end results.

Cab, just a suggestion. What about some sort of coating, say like what they do to headers. Polishing and rubbing gets old fast.

Can you use Autosol on chrome? I see some different versions and some say not to use on certain things.

I had to clean them up inside with solvent to get the polishing residue out of them, they where wrinkle black paint bake on originally. The solvent wiped off okay with a old tee shirt but I want to make sure they are clean once I'm done working on it after the dyno testing is done.
Thanks to all of you on helping me on this up bow
Pay it forward grin

I would not standard equipment autosol on chrome, it may scratch the finish.....and the O.P. is talking about polished aluminum.

If they have al ready had a high polish put on them. Do not touch with never dull. Ya be sorry. If ya had alum that has never had polish work on them. Never dull is a good start. But the wool fibers will make it look like ya sanded it with 1000 grit sand paper. I did a spot on a tunnel ram with a mirror shine. I was mad after. And had to have it redone/touched up
Mother mag wheel polish a old t shirt and elbow work. Will make huge differance. If your still getting black. Then it's still pulling dirt out of the pores of the metal

I have tried most of the polishes listed above and I always seem to go back to Mothers Mag Wheel polish.
