ebody with no Rear Bumper Guards - 03/04/18 09:23 AM

Did any challengers come without rear bumper guards? I have seen some rear valances without the slots for them and i cant tell if they have filled/ shaved the slots. (and removed bumper guards)

They where there to protect the spring hanger and not so much for looks or whatever. I have a 73 Cuda that has the frame moved inward but haven't decided what I'll do with the hole. If we're talking the same thing.

I think most of the 1970/71 came without them confused

ALL 70-74 Challengers and Cudas had rear bumper guards

My Challenger also has the spring moved inboard. I just bolted mine back on the bumper.

All the '70-'74 Challengers came with bumper guards of some type. If the bumper does not have any guards and the valance no longer has the cut-out to accommodate the bumper guard brackets, the valance was modified and filled-in.

Even the 71 Rubber Bumper used the chrome bumper guard

Not really IMHO, the rear elastromeric bumper Cuda or Challenger needs those chrome "fangs" to dress off the ass end...here's the Diamante...looks a little naked back there...

Those "fangs" are supports, and if left off the bumper wobbles like crazy.

The bumper guard option was just rubber strips to protect the fangs. That orange Challenger would look better with them imho

Bumper guards were not available on the rubber bumper

The whole point of elastomeric is for the monochromatic(no chrome)look...

Which I believe greatly enhances the fuselage bodies...

Being that the bumpers are already pulled into the body line to begin with...

Similar in the E-body, but less pronounced...

'71 E-body elastomeric is unique-chrome kills it...

Here, even the bezels kill the look...

(However, that CAN be rectified...

I have two 71 Cudas one hardtop one vert. Both original A22 front and rear elasto bumper cars. Both have chrome bumper guards.

By far some of the best a$$ shots I've ever seen! eek I think the little detail of chrome looks great with the elasto bumpers! Those are like figure skater a$$, mine is more like a gym rat a$$... haha

That's because that 71 runner combination was never available from the factory (71 runners didn't get the chrome tail light bezels and 71 GTXs which did get the bezels didn't come with the bumper/valance blackout)

The photo was provided to showcase the contrast, not model 'correctness'...

As for GTX bumper tape availability on an elastomeric bumper...

Here's one below...

We've seen it more than once...OEM...

Just like we've seen transverse stripes over an Air Grabber...OEM...

Which was another one that was 'not available'...

'Not available' has been proven wrong, more than once...
