Duplicolor Ceramic Engine Paint Chrysler Torquoise Any used - 01/14/18 05:06 PM

Has anyone tried the Duplicolor Ceramic Engine paints? How does it compare to VHT? Is the color for the torquoise correct if you have used that color?

Hello. Yes , I used the Duplicolor ceramic engine paint.
I used the gloss black to paint a radiator. Still looks good after 6 years.
I don't know how it compares to the VHT brand and no experience with
turquois color.

Used it (Chrysler Red) on the custom dash I did on my '64 Polara build. Cuts and buffs nice and it came out beautiful.

I know it's not what you asked, but I used the Mopar brand, and it covers REALLY well, and I've used it in the past and it has held up well too. Available jegs, summit, etc. Yes, I still need to do water pump.

I used the Duplicolor Chrysler Blue. Still nice after 8 years. Not as shiny as when I first did it but still nice.

I've tried every brand of spraybomb Chrysler turquoise ("early Chrysler blue") I could find & none are close to a '65 big block, they are all "too blue". The original color has more of a greenish tint to it.

No, none are correct, they might as well be blue. Closest I have found is Seymour Detroit Diesel Alpine Green. I've been wanting to try the Dupli-Color Detroit Diesel too, it looks like its also pretty close.

I've used por 15s engine paint and the colors have been right on with the mopar spray cans.... but it's shinier and far more durable.

the biggest argument one will have - what was the original shade/color?

everyone has an opinion what the original paint "when new" looked like

here's a not-too-beat-up '69 turquoise valve cover - is it accurate, did it age darker, grayer???

Look at Bill Hirsch Automotive, its dead on in my opinion. Not cheap but correct and holds very well.

6BBLLGT - That valve cover looks very blue to me. Every Turquoise big block I've ever had looked much more green (like the Alpine green) than any of these blue colors sold as "Chrysler Turquoise" or that valve cover. The paints sold as "Chrysler Turquoise" would probably be a close match on that valve cover. I honestly could not differentiate between that valve cover and 72 and up Corporate blue. But you are right, the aging does effect it.

One other thing - Mancini sells paint now that they claim is a correct match.

No experience with the turquoise; but I like the Hemi orange. Add reducer and their hardener, spray with a gun. The hardener increases gloss according to their literature. With the hardener, it's as durable as BC/CC, spray it with brake cleaner, lawyer thinner, etc and it wipes off as clean and shiny as the day it was sprayed.

Just don't spray it too thick, and make sure all oil and grease is out of the pores of the casting. I have a problem of not wanting to be wasteful, and spraying everything I mixed up. One engine got too thick and when replacing the water pump, the paint chipped and lifted

Tried VHT early Chrysler blue & no close match there. Think I'll give Frank Badalson a call as his paints seem to be good matches. Could have my valve cover scanned & paint matched locally, but a can of mixed spray paint is about $70.

For my '62 Imperial 413 I have tried Duplicolor Chrysler Green, Bill Hirsch Turquoise, and Duplicolor Alpine Green. Chrysler Green was too blue, Bill Hirsch a bit dark, and Apline Green a bit too light and green.....I think I'd like to try Alpine Green 947 and 225, although I have yet to find them anywhere.

It is good paint..dont know about how well the match is..? I just used the ceramic cast iron colored engine paint on my brake calipers..installed them and they were bad, so pulled them back off and rebuilt them..had brake fluid and grime all over them (Dot 5) and none of the paint came off! Its really good paint for spray can..

About 20 years ago, Krylon 91904 Teal Blue was a pretty good rattle-can match, but it's no longer available.
Looking around on the web, Krylon now has a 5568 Satin Jade that may be close in hue, but it's satin.
Jeg's shows the Mopar P4120752AB available, and in a sprayout photo it looked pretty accurate, though darker - ???
Also saw VHT's SP126, also looks fairly accurate but haven't tried it.
I bought a can of Classic Industries' K89162 but haven't tried it yet.
Hirsch's color seems off to me, which surprises me as I've used their Chrysler Red and it was accurate and great out of a gun.
The photo Triggerfish posted looks most accurate to what I recall mine being.

Update for anyone interested -

EDIT; I have to update my prior statement; The Mopar Performance stuff changes color drastically when it cures. It looks like the Duplicolor Detroit Diesel when wet and when it flashes dry, but after a few hours its almost an exact match for the Mancini paint. It looks like the Mancini stuff is right.

I inherited a case of the older Mopar Performance paint, I have no idea how correct it really is but it came out okay.

I didn't care whether it was correct or not, "any shade of mopar blue" would have been all right with me.

Besides this 440, I also painted a 5.7 hemi with it, and that really looks different to say the least (I like it anyway).

I believe yellowfever and triggerfish's colors are both correct depending on year, model and application.

I bought the Mancini paint. Its really pretty, but its not the right color.

A friend stopped by with an old can (1989) of Turquoise Mopar Performance Paint. This paint is the color that looks correct to me. Maybe I'm biased on what I've seen over the years, I wasn't there when the cars were new. So I can't say for sure that the stuff Mopar Performance was pedaling in the 80s was right or not. I just know its much better than what they sell now, which is clearly wrong. It also looks like the color I've seen on all of the original stuff I've owned, accounting for some variances with age/heat.

I found a can of Duplicolor Alpine Green at a local parts store. It is a dead match for the 80s vintage Mopar Performance paint.
