New wiper motor install

New wiper motor install - 12/28/17 02:21 AM

Hey gang I’m finally installing my 2 spd wiper motor on my 71 Duster project. It’s an NOS motor so I switched levers from my old unit but not sure which way to install, it can go 180 either way with the slotted hole and squared shaft on the motor. Should I reset the motor to park position and after that which direction should the lever point before I attach the linkage? I don’t even know how to reset the park? I did hook 12v to the brown wire and grounded the case to make sure it operated ok but have no idea what position it’s in. I won’t put the blades on until I know all is correct as that would suck if they went wrong way on my new paint if that’s possible. Any help much appreciated!

The arm should only go on one 1 way. The shaft should have 3 flat sides and 1 rounded side. Also make sure that its the correct motor for an a-body check that it has 4 silver terminals, if it only has 3 it won't work for you. Use this test to make sure it works correctly and to park the motor. Any other questions post here, PM me or email somerbr1@aol.com

Thx Bruce yes it has 4 terminals and a resistor identical to my original. Ok I must have gotten lucky on the lever as it went right on and I assumed it could go 180 out. I’ll double check that.

It should have 4 terminals on the connector but make sure they are all silver

Checking my terminals two are silver and two are brass but they also are two and two on the old motor which Im pretty certain is original to the car 71 Duster. Your thoughts Bruce? Thx

I did the test and it seems to work fine both speeds. The park test works because it momentarily runs and just stops which I assume is correct for a non reversing style. If you look at the top left of page 12 of the bulletin, it states reversing motor has only one brass but non- reversing had two brass connectors so I do indeed have the corrrct motor. I checked my original old crusty motor and it still works. Maybe I’ll have it refurbished since it’s the original to my car. Here’s a pic of the NOS box the new one came in if you want to see part numbersBought it at least ten years ago off eBay but it’s dated 1977 from the dealer. So I guess next I just hook up my linkage to the crank arm and park the motor and install my blade arms correct? Thx again
