Rotisserie? - 11/28/17 05:43 AM

What type of rotisserie are you guys using or what plan did you use to build your own?
I’m looking at building of buying one and would like the jacks to lift the car up and a good fixture for turning it by myself.
I’d like to know what you guys recommend and wish you would of done differently or opted for on you rotisserie.

Thanks for any and all info

I made my own out of square stock and a couple cheapo engine stands. Think I had all of $100 in it.

I recently noticed a post on www.69hemi.com which details a rotisserie build.

Re: Rotisserie? - 11/28/17 06:55 PM

I made my own. labeled and numbered all of the pieces. It makes it so much easier for everyone else that I have loaned it to for them to assembly it in the past. I have since added mounts on the rear of each end to add the bottle jacks to to adjust it up & down easier.

I had my eye on one of these,

seems like decent prices considering After buying the hydraulic cylinders, casters, threaded rod and hardware, steel, and misc parts and shipping, you'd be close to what these cost without the work of fabricating, welding, and paint.

Build or buy, but watch the space you have available. Some units take up a lot of room in the front and back of the Vehicle. And, to get it nicely balanced, you may have to mount the car high enough that it won't clear your ceiling. Good luck!

Well for all you flag wavers, I guaranty you that for $1000. that Titan unit isn't made in the USA !!! Its not the steel that costs the money, its the labor - and that unit has way to much labor in it to have been made in the US and sell at that price.

I see so much China bashing on here I just thought I'd point this out. Guys won't run a $50 China water pump on their motor but they'll put their rare hemi car on a Chinese rotisserie. Personally, I see no issues with the unit, just making the point about it being an "offshore" unit. Don't whine if "making America great again" doesn't happen in your lifetime !

You have issues. I have a backyard full of maple leaves that need to be removed.
It will make my piece of America great again.

So let me ask you this?
Are all the components on your rotisserie made in America?

Re: Rotisserie? - 11/29/17 11:47 PM

One thing I noticed, tire size, if you're going to roll it out in your gravel-dirt driveway you need large diameter tires (14-16" or bigger). Those little ones will dig into the ground and won't roll. I've been looking at a set of tow dolly wheels to slip on when I take outside to pressure wash.
I also made small screw jacks for each wheel, takes pressure off rubber tire and stabilized the whole unit, no wiggles.
I know mine was made overseas but I keep updating and making it work easier as I use it. Looking for a worm drive so as to crank it around to any position that I need, no need for a pin or to lock down. It's one of the best, most useful things I've ever bought.

I got mine from John @ UScartool. I paid $1200 but that was back when they first started selling them. They are much more $$ now.

Re: Rotisserie? - 12/01/17 01:15 PM

I built mine as well.

Here is a rotissorie I built several years ago. I featured it before over on Garage Journal, one of several other forums I frequent.

Features include: (1) arbor locks with spring loaded pins where the pin handle holds the pin in the retracted position for one man operation; (2) hydraulic jacks for raising but hitch pins in double shear to ensure arbors are concentric; (3) bushed center of gravity adjuster to raise or lower body to adjust for balance (use deep well socket and impact gun on coupling nut); (4) caster wheels with brakes at all corners - I used an oil pan drain bolt to lock wheel at 90 degrees; (5) push handles on both ends.

I studied many designs out there before building this. Most suffer from lack of keeping the arbors concentric which basically creates a bent crank and impedes rotation. I wanted to ensure concentric axis of rotation yet be able to tune the offset to get the car's CG on the axis of rotation which then balances the body. The nut and pneumatic impact make it quite easy. The hitch pins keep the axis of rotation in alignment without stress on the jacks

The unit above looks very well built. How do you rotate it?

Re: Rotisserie? - 12/03/17 02:21 AM

By hand once balanced. Grab the t-bar and spins nice.
