California-Built 1970 Coronet R/T Fuel Issues: HELP! - 09/27/17 10:55 PM

Hey guys, I've been searching and haven't really found an answer to this. We've got a 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T in the shop working out some fuel issues. I'm trying to eliminate what may not be correct first, and then go from there. The car is a 440, 4bbl, 4spd, Dana rear end, w/ N96 ("Ramcharger" induction), and is a factory E.C.S. (California Emissions) car.

Two questions:
1. Does anyone have a schematic or pictures of where the additional ECS-specific emission hoses go under the hood? If you have pictures, I'd like for it to be of a correctly restored car, survivor, etc.

2. On a factory ECS car, should there be a fuel separator between the fuel pump and carb... like many big blocks had.

Thanks for your help!!

1. There is a hose from the carb bowl vent to the three nipple breather on the valve cover. Then another hose from the three nipple breather to a metal line on the passenger side inner fender. This line runs back to the vapor separator in the trunk.

2. There is a fuel separator because it is a 440. It has nothing to do with ECS.

Note the should be three fuel lines :
one 3/8" that goes from the fuel sender to the fuel pump
one 5/16" that goes from the fuel sender return to the fuel separator
one 5/16" that goes from the three nipple breather to the vapor separator in the trunk

Remember, that none of the repo casters have the .060 office in the return nipple like the originals did, so you will have to make your own. If you don't then your fuel pressure, and flow would probably be low.

You don't have to be drunk to own an FSM. But it helps.

I had a 71 Charger with the ECS. The problem was I would get vapor lock on a hot day. Bought the car in the spring. Didn't drive it that much. When we restored the car the lines going into the new tank were blocked off. I left the return line in the eventI decided to go FI.
Blocking off the lines solved the problem.

1970 cars have ECS.

1971 cars have NOx.

They are not the same.
