I was told that the seals are different from 8 3/4 and Dana 60. The original ones says National 34419 but those are old numbers. My parts guy says the new numbers are Timken 473228. I just want to verify that before I put them in.
Rock auto shows Nat. #8695S inner & 8740S outer 8.75 & Spicer 60.I do believe your right about them being different between 8.75 & 60 I just recently had a guy show me this I can contact him if needed.
8695S would not fit my dana..... read here.... "https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/12625/re-dana-60-axle-seal-question-update.html#Post12625"
I just reached out to my friend he used to rebuild differential's for a living & has all the older Spicer manuals. Why would R.A.show a part# for inner seals don't they only have the one outer.
I have both 51098 and 473228. The first one is thicker than the other one. On the face of my original it says 34419. I am going to pull the seals out tomorrow and compare them.
I believe that there are three different inner seals for the Mopar Dana 60 car rear ends, one for each size axle. the 1970/71 with the 35 spline axles will use the one for those axles only The 1966/67 17 splines and the 1968/69 with the 23 splines are different ones
On my 1969 Coronet with Dana 60, I had a hard time finding the correct axle tube seals. Every place I looked kept giving the 8-3/4" part number and that seal is too small of an outer diameter. I thought I posted the correct part number here, but I did not see it when I searched. I don't know off the top of my head what the part number is.
There are 3 different seals with 3 different widths for the Dana 60. My originals said National 34419 which I'm finding out was a Spicer part #.
473228 - 1.5000 x 2.5060 x 0.3125 (Double Lip) 481837 - 1.5000 x 2.5060 x 0.3750 (Single Lip) * Same width as my originals* 51098 - 1.5000 x 2.5060 x 0.4375 (Single Lip)
You don't know which ones you need until you pull out your original ones. That's what I'm finding out.
