73 Charger guage issue

73 Charger guage issue - 08/19/17 01:01 PM

After 5 years of ownership I finally got my Charger road worthy. My friend brought it back from California and what appeared to be a rust free car was found to have severe rust under the vynal top. He decided that the car would be too much of a project to take on, so I bought it and installed a roof skin on it. I got the car to be used as a three season daily driver to keep some milage off my truck. While on its maiden voyage i noticed that the fuel, oil pressure, and temperature guages seem to fluctuate whe whole time I am driving the car. Anyone else ever have this problem with third generation b body guages? Anybody know a fix for this, any input would be appreciated. Thanks Pete

IVR or the ground to the instrument panel

If it's the voltage limiter as supercuts suggests, I would replace it with a solid state one from RT engineering. If that thing goes bad as in stuck open it will fry the gauges.

Doesn't the instrument panel ground through the dimmer switch on the floor?

I don't think so. Most of the old Mopars ground the cluster with the screws holding it to the dash.

Do the third gens have a ground reinforcement like the 71s?
