Legendary Auto Interior panel installation question

Legendary Auto Interior panel installation question - 08/03/17 01:00 AM

I'm attaching a photo of the back side of one of my quarter interior panels. These are older legendary brand (at least 6 years). The holes for the clips are these perforated rectangles. do they just pop out like I've done with one or am I missing something. There's no double wall cardboard and a pocket the clip goes into like I would expect. Seems weird to have holes all the way to the foam. The ones shown in the instructions on the Legendary site are different. Anyone have this style or know to install the clips?

That's correct. Remove the perforated rectangles and the clips will slide on. You may have to do some trial and error to see which way the clips have to be turned for the holes to line up properly. Here are the clips that you would use.

Also if I remember correctly on the legendary panels we used there were some extra perforations made on the panels than there were holes in the car for the clips to go in. Need to compare before trying to install.

I had an old Mustang that used the same type of clips and I used Velcro strips instead as they make taking it apart much easier without wrecking the cardboard. Soon after I put the car back together the drivers side window regulator failed so I had to take the door panel back off.

Many street rod interiors have Velcro holding them together, and that is where I got the Velcro idea from.

I agree about not using the clips. I used them on my charger legendary door panels and you could see the clips from the other side. I tried the flat clips instead of the wire clips and they were a little better.

I believe you need to push and twist to install...

Yes, the thickness of the clips will telegraph thru the panel leaving high spots. Sometimes the foam is thick enough to hide them and sometimes not.

The window crank and door armrest screws hold the door panel in place just fine and the Velcro, or oem clips, just keep the perimeter held down against the door frame.

Try the velcro on a corner and see if you like it. If not then resort to the clips.

I installed new ones with wire clips in my 70RR. Look great. Have had to remove 3 times ( dont ask...). Use the right tool and its easy

It wasn`t so much that the clips work or not. And yes I`m sure most know to use the tool to remove but my legendary door panels were less padded in the area where my clips went. The OE panel had more thickness to keep the clips from showing. For as much as the panels cost I won`t take that chance next time.
