Oracle Sealed Beam Conversion Halo Lights

Anybody try these? White of course. '68 Dart. Can't wire them to the parking lamps on a '68 Dodge. Parking lights turn off w/ headlights on?

Good headlights without the pisazz and BS of aftermarket crap.
Dot approved and a good upgrade for lighting.
Also add relays to bypass stock wiring and you will have trouble free lighting for the cars lifetime, while reducing the load on the stock wiring

I don't know how these might compare to a 7" HELLA H4 halogen conversion in terms of brightness but the Hella sure has a simple mounting and requires no modifications. Hella is a respected European brand that has been in business for decades. I happen to have a new in the box set if interested.

Sounds like the OP is more interested in the halo aspect than the usefulness aspect.

I am not interested in the Halo aspect more than its performance.

I have a set, I have the blue Halo wired to my Running lamps and the regular low/high beam as normal, no issues and I didn't have to alter the bucket? I love them.

So question is really useful light on the road and objects on the road.
Comparisons of the lighting can be made in two ways.
1. Passes minimum recognized standards or regulations for headlights. If one meets the standards and the other doesn't, that tells the story. Short version is to look for legit ECE (european commission), DOT or SAE markings on the lens.

2. Measure the light brightness pattern on a screen or roadway.
Lighting professionals use photometric patterns like these.
A less precise way is to set out markers on a roadway and measure the light at the same points with a light meter. It won't show if there is a bunch of stray light, but it will give some indication of how even the pattern is, if its in the right places from the driver's perspective, and how bright it is compared to others tested the same way.

IMO your best bang for the buck with 7" round lamps will be GE Nighthawks (sealed beam), Hella Vision Plus (H4), Cibie E-code (H4), listed in order of increasing initial cost.

Nighthawks are serious bright compared to stock.

You can wire the parking lights to stay on with the headlights. Just pull the parking light wire out of the headlight switch. Then connect it to one of the headlight/taillight wires coming off of the switch.

I'm going to run LED "flashback" daytime running lamps on my 68. The DRLs turn off when the turn signals are on. All I did was plug the parking light wire into an ignition "run" wire. They will come on as soon as you turn the key. I also ran the wire through a toggle switch just in case the LEDs are too bright at night...I can turn them off.

I also bought some halo lights. The halo section has two sets of wires around the outside lip. This interferes with the headlight bucket. My plan was to buy another set of buckets to modify. If I end up not liking the look, I'm going to wire up the lights/old bezels/old grill and mount them on my garage wall.

No. GE uses that name for a whole line up of different lamps.
Sorry, not so easy these days to find things that used to be simple. You would have had to follow the links through my page to Candlepower forum to find it without having the part number.

Hella Vision Plus, DOT for Automobiles is p/n 002395301 and around $40 - $50 each, and includes an HB2/H4 light bulb.

Cibie's are about $80 ea. Only a few places retail them in the US. Bulb is extra IIRC. There are several decent H4 60/55W bulbs available, along with some rated +25, +50 etc. The + bulbs trade lifespan for a little more lumens.

kid, you ever get any grief running those blue lights ? around here, and in most parts of the country, red and blue lights are for emergency and police only, and when used for other purposes, greatly frowned upon. just curious.

He shouldn't, as long as they're not flashing they won't be confused for emergency lights. (Colors assigned to different types of emergency lights varies by state)

OTH it is possible running the blue halo on public roads violates some other vehicle lighting regs or legislation. Most of those are also vary by state but if it is bright or distracting...

To the OP -
Whatever you get, aiming them correctly is a big help.
Since we are talking about single pair of combined Hi/low lamps, aim them using the low beams. (The high beam instructions are for cars that have a dedicated pair of high beam only lamps.)
For Lamps marked DOT or SAE, they can be aimed with a machine or do it yourself manually as shown here.

For lamps made to European Commission standards, aim them as described here.

There are so many super bright white/blue aftermarket lights on imports in the area I live, it's ridiculous. Yes, they are great if you're driving the car, but they suck when you're the one they are pointing at. They literally give me a headache, not to mention temporarily blinding me. Nocturnal animals hate them as well.

Around here the cops dont pull people over for them unless they need an excuse to pull over a car. They will hold up a white piece of paper to the headlight and if the color is purple/blue/white-ish, they now can write a ticket. That's after they achieve their original goal of checking to see if you have license, registration, warrants, drugs/alcohol etc.

Fixed that.
Bright will likely seem better but may not be.

so far no problems they don't blink or flash, I was going to set them up as my turn signal but was worried about the Police encounters. but I love them
