Racing vs. standard oil filters for 318/340

If an engine was built for mild drag racing and using a Wix oil filter rated for racing (#51515R), can I use a standard filter without any concerns and will the oil pressure be higher? The engine runs at 60 psi with the racing oil filter. Thanks for the help.

I run a wix 51515 on my race car 70 psi.

the 51515R is a full flow no bypass 60 microns. what filter are you thinking of going to? we need the microns of it.

I was told the standard WIX #51515 was 21 micron.

Would someone please explain "bypass" ? Does this mean the amount of pressure that gets UNfiltered and just passed through the system ?

It's a safety valve that bypasses the filter if the oil is too cold/thick to flow thru or if it was to clog for whatever reason.

Better that unfiltered oil goes to the crank than no oil at all.

These are what I used before installing a permanent filter.

You can tell when the filter starts not flowing as well by the oil pressure gauge dropping off.

I cut my filters apart to see what's in them, these are built really well compared to some others.

I've been using WIX 51068 on my 360 motor since having started it after a fresh rebuild. As best as I can tell it is still all-good.

Some filter specs:
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Beta Ratio: 2/20=6/20
Burst Pressure-PSI: 275
Max Flow Rate: 7-9 GPM
Nominal Micron Rating: 21

I just read on the box of a WIX 51515R (Racing filter) and it says, "Warning: Not for street use". What is this all about? I just changed the oil and circumstances caused me to install a race filter, so should I be using this filter if the car is now being used for street use only?

Look at the specs for 51515R vs 51515

R has more GPM and less filtration than the street duty one
