Dog dish hub cap removal - 06/08/17 07:45 PM

Okay, dumb question. How hard is it to remove the dog dish hubcap without scratching/damaging the finish on the wheel? Is there a tip to doing this? Thx

I found an L shaped piece of scrap metal, put tape on the part that touches the wheel and pried the suckers off. Tougher putting them back on without denting them.

Mine pop back on by hand, just push along the perimeter.

Over time you'll get marring where the cap snugs on the rim, but that's no different from marks that trim rings make near the lip - can't be seen anyway

My solution has always been a couple layers of black electrical tape over the end of a small pry bar or flat screw driver.

i made one similar to that using a long, junk screwdriver i heated and bent into a J shape, then coating it with several layers of plasti-dip. i still use a soft cloth doubled up as a backer on the wheel surface. sorry i don't have a pic, but it is a very simple and cheap tool to make.

I'm lazy and used a little wheel bearing grease on the tabs before I put the hubcaps on. Made it easier for me to get the caps off/on with the plastic/nylon tools and a rag. Don't use too much grease cause it will sling off.

Yep that's the tool. Used that when I had to bust tires for a living.
