Console will not unlock on my 69 ply

Always used to pop open when driving, a friend while visiting adjusted it so it would not, that worked but now it will not open at all, messed around with the key, that did not open it and then I put it in the Lock position, (bad idea) now It wont even turn back to the unlock position, I would like to get it open but I don't want to break anything.

any ideas ?

Try pushing down on the lid with some extra oomph while turning the key. It sounds like your friend got it to tight.
