99 Durango 46RE Trans Issues - 03/22/17 03:57 AM

I just picked up a 99 Durango 5.9 4x4. It's throwing trans codes 1765 ( Trans 12 Volt Supply Relay CTRL Circuit) and 753 (Shift Solenoid A Electrical). Anyone experience these two codes together? Is one causing the other, or do I have two separate problems? What should I be looking for? Any help would be much appreciated!

Edit: When starting out in Drive, I only have 3rd. I can manually shift into 2nd and then into Drive, but no 1st or 4th.

Check the fuse and relay in the Power Distribution Center (black box behind battery). Make sure both are good.

Thanks John. I checked the relay today and swapped it with my A/C one...no change. I'll check for a fuse...didn't realize there was one.

Also, with Google, I found a thread elsewhere addressing the exact problem I have and it claimed the PCM was at fault. It mentions grounding a pink wire on the center bundle. I checked today and see someone had already grounded the pink wire and the PCM is a Mopar reman unit -- so the previous owner has been down this road before. I'm going to guess it's something other than the relay or PCM. Here is a link to the thread...your thoughts? Discussion about the PCM and pink wire start at reply #7.

48re is nearly identical, correct?

Starting out in 3rd is usually the fault of the shift solenoid and/or transducer in the valve body. Buying the upgraded borg warner piece and replacing the transducer is around $100 in parts.

I had this symptom in my cummins and these 2 parts fixed it

Ok I took a look in dealer connect. The
trans control relay sends 12v to the various slonoids. If it's only missing voltage to the 3/4 shift solenoid 12v supply is not the issue. The 3/4 solenoid is controlled by the PCM grounding circuit T60 (brown wire) at connector C2 cavity 21. Either the 3/4 solenoid, open in circuit T60 or a faulty PCM. To test disconnect PCM connector C2 test lamp connected to ground and pin 21. Touch a wire connected to ground to cavity 30 (pink wire). If the solenoid and circuit are good the test lamp wil illuminate.

Thanks -- I'll go try that. I noticed someone has already grounded the pink wire, I assume to bypass the relay? In my post above there is a link to a thread on DodgeForum advising grounding the pink wire is a "temp fix". I have to assume leaving this pink wire grounded will eventually fry something...like the PCM or the 3/4 solenoid.

When you say "cavity", I am assuming that means the female receptacle on the PCM? Connector C2 is going to be the middle connector?

Thanks again!

Yes cavity is terminal location in the connector. Grounding the pink circuit mention takes the control of the relay away from the PCM. All the relay does is feed power to the various solenoids. They are commanded on by the PCM grounding the individual circuits controlling each solenoid.

Thanks Doug. The rango is at my buddy's shop...I'll be going there tomorrow to check this out.

FIXED! Replaced the PCM and output speed sensor. Codes are clear and it now shifts the way it's supposed to. Thanks all!

I swapped in a Durango drivetrain into My wrangler and I have the same codes. if I am understanding this test, my light is not lighting up. Are there any other tests I can perform?
