I've had a few combos on my Satellite over the years. With stock wheel-wells, my advice is the following: Front: 215-70's on 15x7's Rear: 255-60's on 15x8's with 4-3/4 or 4-1/2 back spacing. This will be tight, but will fit and fill the well. Slicks: you can fit 28x9's on the same rims in there.
Great looking R/T thanks for the pic, that really helps I am leaning toward 60 series, but can't find the redlines I want in the 60 series might go with TA's
I had big/little on my '67 Belvedere II '69 4.10 Dana (5/8" wider than '67) Late '70s OEM steel wheels, 15x7" wheels, 4.25" backspace, rear 275-60, front 245-60
After I installed and ran them, I didn't like my choice for the rear for 2 reasons 1- Because of the '69 Dana, the rears were real tight, I had to deflate the tires and let the axle hang to get it in/out of the wheelwell 2- 275-60 will fit on a 7" wide wheel, it would even go on a 6", what it should go on is an 8" wheel, the recommended max for 7" is 255-60
My new setup will be, -original '67 Dana going back in after replacing the original 4.88 with a thin 4.10 -rear tires will be 255-70 on the same 7" steels -fronts will be 215-75 on 15x5.5" steels (from '82 D100) or 205-75 on 5" Am Racing TT Originals
275's do rightfully want an 8" rim. However I've had mine on 7" rims for 15 years and have never had ill handling or odd wear patterns. They're fine. On a 67 Coronet and a 66 Satellite.
I was leaning towards 22570R15's front and 23570R15's Redlines for the rear mounted on Magnum 500's. I wanted Redlines, but I felt it looked a little, out of proportion, so I am looking at 60's instead of 70's, If I go 60's would probably go with TA's but I prefer the Redlines.
I just ordered a set of 15x8 Cragars with a custom backspace of 5" for my '67 Satellite. I plan on running them with either 275/60-15 Pro-trac's (10.5 section width) or Cooper Cobra G/T's (10.7 section width). I keep going back and forth between the old school look of bias ply or the convenience of radials...but that's for another thread.
I was able to test fit some 15x8 Magnum 500's with 4.5" of backspace that my dad had for his Charger to get a good idea of how they'd fit. There were 275/60-15 BFGoodrich Radial T/A's mounted which have an advertised section width of 11.0" section width. I feel that with the added .5" back space and the smaller section width of the two tires I'm debating the should fit nicely.
Here's some video of the test fitting, as you can see it's VERY close. Also note how the driver side is a little closer to the lip. There was another thread like this a while back where several owners said they had the same issue. I drove the car around and it's actually decent and only rubs if you take corners at speed. I'd never run it permanently like that, hence the custom backspace I ordered. If I wasn't able to get custom backspacing I'd run 255/60-15's.
My former 67 Satellite, it has 15 x x7 Magnum wheels with 4.25 inch rear spacing front and rear. The tires are redlines, 235/60R15's front and 255/60R15's on the rear.
Thanks everyone , your pics and comments are all appreciated, Looks like I will go with 60 series instead of the 70's. I don't believe Coker has Redlines in 60 series radials. Guess I will go with TA's. I appreciate all the input and especially the pic's.
