A833OD ID. Need help

Supposedly this came from an F body. It's Aluminum, yet it's a dual mount for the shifter. I want to make sure it'll fit in my small block Duster build. Thanks for the help IDing

Who ever told you that trans came from a car that the tranny would fit in a early A body told you wrong That tranny came from a pick up or full size van I have both types of the later model 833 O.D. trannys in the shop, the A body type is all aluminum, not with a cast steel tail shaft housing like that one with both mounts
I do like that shifter better than the one I have on the same type tranny in my shop, do you want to sell the shifter? PM if so
I'm putting my tranny like yours in a 1966 Dodge Coronet Deluxe B body two door sedan in back of a 440 motor

I have not bought it. Guy sent me pics of it. Because I'm building a sub 300hp project the OD is attractive. Guess I need to move on. Is that confirmed that it's a truck trans then? Bummer. Lot of misinformation out there.

Ps - when you say early A body I think pre 67. I have a 73 Duster.

Definitely a truck trans.
It's possible it could have been hacked into an F body, but it looks more to me like someone just slapped a bunch of parts together to sell for a few bucks.

You could use a longer tailshaft trans in an A,F,M,or J body if you made a bracket to come off the rear shifter mount to put a shifter in the A body shifter location.
The trans cross member is in the way of using the front bracket, you'd have to butcher it up pretty ugly to use it the way they have it set up.

Well if the price is right, grab it. Swapping a tailstock is no big deal and you have someone to buy the shifter. Bear in mind that there will likely be a problem with the front countershaft hole that will require boring the hole and bushing it BUT you'll likely encounter this problem with any OD box you come across - VERY common problem.

Won't he have to change the main shaft to an Abody too?

Are A/F body OD and std main shafts interchangeable? I think so, but not 100% sure.

Won't an OD main shaft have the smaller output spline?

As far as the front bearing retainer and the bell housing hole you can use the earlier smaller(there are three different sizes of them) front bearing retainer on the later OD. trannys, I have
As far as the output shaft my truck/van tranny has the standard larger output shaft size, the other F body OD tranny has the smaller one like some of the 904-7 1/4 inch rear end early cars had Which only means you need the proper size and spline front yoke to use that tranny

Autoxcuda is correct. The mainshaft in the transmission the OP has pictured is the longer length, which means it will fit in an E or 70 and later B body. There were two different mainshaft lengths, one for A and F bodies, and one for B, E and C bodies.

If you get an A Body OD4 mainshaft, you would need to disassemble the transmission and install all parts on the correct mainshaft. And you would also need the proper A/F tailshaft.
Not at all worth the time and money to do that.

Normal 1:1 A-body four speeds used a completely different main shaft than the OD. The only OD I ever pulled from an A-body was an all-iron case.
