Question about a Holley Street Demon (simple) - 07/13/16 11:25 PM

I have this carb, except in a 750 CFM model:

When I put keyed power to the choke, the black part of it gets HOT. Also when power it put to it, the choke mechanism does not move? It is OK? Can I wire the damn thing open?

I have not put fuel to it yet?

if you hold the throttle open then rotate the black bakelite housing till the choke is closed then let go of the throttle then when current is applies it should start to open, not sure how soon maybe in a few minutes (my eddy 1406 opens way too quick) but with it getting hot open up the round cover & quick visual cuz it should be opening & not sure how hot it is supposed to get so check it out & holler back

Pull the black cover off the choke linkage and see if the coil spring has a loop on the end of it for the pin to the choke linkage, if so when you reassemble it make sure the pin goes into the loop and then adjust the cover so it closes the choke blades all the way when cold.If it has a L shape on the end of the spring put it against the pin so it will close the choke when adjusted properly scope Align the line on the choke cover with the matching lines on the choke housing scope
Let us know how you do and if that wokrs or not work

I have the same carb. It sounds like something is shorting inside of the choke body. When I key mine on, it gets very slightly warm. You can hear the coil go "tangg" as it warms up after half a minute but nothing beyond that.

I'm not a fan of the action on this particular electric choke, I generally don't use it in warmer months. It works fine with the choke wired open, I just have to give it a little manual footwork for the first little bit and it will idle at 12.5:1 dead cold just fine.
