Busted radiator - 04/17/16 04:56 PM

Jacking up the 65 Belvedere to put new clutch spring on.Floor jack slid and hit the rad bottom.Bent it good and the shroud and tore the lower hose outlet off. Also tore the side mounts off.Guess Ill have to get a new rad.Had one from a friends 64 in the garage but I think the kid sold it.Yeah one thing I need and it gets sold.Any of the aftermarket rads work good and fit?No way will i pay 500 or 600 for one.Ill take my old tanks and sides up and get my original one recored first. How do the rads that a member here sells fit etc.Rocky

If original looks are not a concern, I hqve one of the aluminumn champion radiators and it has performed really well. Fit was nice as well. Pretty much dropped right in. I think I very slightly clearanced one hole out of round to make it bolt up.

roe OE loooks arent important at all.I looked at Champions and the top is offset to drivers side.Foud 2 on Ebay for like 160 that have the top hose more toward pass side.I figure 160 for 3 core and fee shipping isnt bad.Just POs me that the 64 BB one we had my kids sold.I figure to get my oe tanks etc recored to 4 core would be 500 or so as when we did the 62s it was 400 years ago.Rocky

I too used a Champion 2 core from eBay 189 to my door. fit fine on my 65 dart just had to relocate one mounting hole on the dr side flat flange (no big deal) and use an early iron pump for the dr side lower nipple. a 318 DD sure ain't gonna test its cooling capacity but I dont see an issue. reportedly there are (were) issues with flatness and poor welds so you'd wanna check that right off the bat and iirc something about a problem adding a schroud & something about the cooling tubes not being as big as some. I think there is a member who sells em & guaranteed satisfaction. the top tank is square & the alum needs to be painted (imo) cuz it dont look right. Speedway mtrs has alum rads for cheap too (never used one & not sure who makes em, not in house tho). Short version: I'd get a 3 row core version with nipples on correct side/check it over/add a schroud/call it good

RR I think Speedway was one I saw on Ebay.I think the Champions have the top more towadr DS than stock.Ones I saw on the bay are more toward pass side like OE.Ones on Ebay are supposed to be 3 core.Looks isnt important to me.The 65 is a roach with radical motor.Bent my facory shroud some also but If it cools OK I wont use it.Rocky

Rocky watch which one you look at getting...I got one for the Satellite from Ebay...It didn't have a billet neck and you can actually put the radiator cap on and turn it past the stop point as the aluminum is too thin. I bought a Champion 3 row for the Dart from a member here...it has a billet neck and it seems to cool better than the other one. I actually need to order one for the Satellite from Champion too... twocents

$160? Holy lol. Paid $500 for my Wizard. I take it the champion is more of a generic rad?

Rad came in today.Looks pretty nice.Ill se how it fits in a day or so.Probally have to get 2 new hose. The bottom for sure as OE rad had 1 3/4 and this is 1 1/2.Top might be short also as the inlet is more toward middle of rad.Rocky
