Belt squeals when a/c compressor turns on 2002 Concord

This is a 2002 Concord, 3.5 engine, new belt, 80,000 miles. Every time the a/c compressor kicks on the belt squeals. It started doing this last year. Doesn't do it in the winter or when it's cold but the warmer it gets the louder and longer it squeals. Anyone experience this or know how to fix it ?

Could be over charged or tight inside , but my guess is the clutch itself It probably has rust on outer ring that is making noise on engagement Tough to say without hearing the noise

One common cause would be the belt is worn, glazed or contaminated by oil. If not done recently, suggest you replace the belt with a Gates or similar high quality belt.

So how often do you run the a/c on in the winter ?

The a/c compressor kicks on and off when the heater and the a/c is turned on. Apparently this is a Chrysler design. Even though I don't use the a/c in the winter, I do have to use the heater ! I'm sure the belt still slips but do to the cold it doesn't make the noise. When the switch is in the off position, no belt noise !

I purchased the car with 12,000 miles on it and have done all maintenance.

It has a new Gates belt

Good idea to pull the belt and check all accessories - including the tensioner - for free and quiet movement. My daughters '01 Jeep had a similar problem and the alternator bearings were shot. It ran a surprising long time that way but they were tight. Reman alternator and it was quiet again.

99 Caravan here, same thing, buy mine screams. I'm thinking new compressor too.

I had a 93 3.0 mini van and the belt would scream on occasion and I replaced the tensioner and all was good.
