Push Button 727 leaks through cable

We've been running a '63 Plymouth in N/SS for years. I'm working on getting the car out again this season after sitting for some time. I've had a long-standing issue with leakage coming from the shift adjust cable. Is this a common problem? Does anyone manufacture a replacement cable? Thanks in advance for your help. Tommy

I had the same problem with my '62 except it was the park cable. I got mine from Imperial Services http://www.imperialservices.net/Bparts.html But it took several months and the threat of mail fraud to get it delivered. The new cable solved the problem. I think the quality of the Imperial Services stuff is very good. Again, if you can get them to deliver. Be very cautious. If you know someone in Michigan maybe you can get them to go to Imperial and pick one up for you??

if your cable is good, maybe you could clean it very well and obtain a length of "marine" grade heat shrink tubing. the "marine" grade has an adhesive that seals good and protects from the elements and salt spray very well. just something to think about.

I have the fix. Heat shrink with glue in it. Works perfect. If you cant find any PM me and I'll send you some.

I agree with the gang above, de-grease it, put a load of RTV on the cable, and then the shrink tube. It will take a couple of days for the RTV to cure inside there, so allow for that. If you put that tube up so that it is up there compared to the level in the tranny, that would be good. I have done this 6-8 times, works every time.

I had the cable drop onto the header melted down to the cable core. I found a hose with the center larger then the cables diameter and used RTV and slit hose to get it around the housing after it cured no leaks.

Fluid leaks from inside the speedo cable are caused by an often overlooked seal inside the speedo pinion gear. The only lube inside the cable housing should be the cable core grease.

The heat shrink will fix any leaks in the crimp ares or melted spots in the outer cable. Good O-rings will repair a leak into the case or housing. I have found the park cable housing is often warped. Some elbow grease with a stone will fix that leak. John has shown the repair for the speedo adapter. There is no need for RTV.

DON'T DO IT! Steve Charette who now owns Imperial Services still has $410 of my customers money for over one year, doesn't answer the phone, and will only BS you into sending him money. He's a dirtbag and a thief! Still waiting on 'parts' to finish a ratio adapter....

I sent the form in January to the Internet Fraud division of the FBI. I got a call from Imperial Services, his wife telling me they were waiting on parts and should be done in 4-5 weeks. She left him as well, so now he blames her because he has to answer the phone.

The heat shrink with glue inside works great. Needs to be put in from the shifter end, so remove cable from shifter, then install tube.

little off topic does any know lengths of 65 big block cables for a console car? years ago got the drive out of a 65 chrysler think it was console car

Is it leaking form the cable housing or is it leaking from the O ring that is suppose to seal it into the tranny? If the cable housing do as suggested, if it is the O ring replace it
