dana 60 and 4 speed - 01/27/16 07:18 PM

I got under my cuda yesterday to check the numbers on my dana and found out it was a 71-b body 9-15-0A1, 9-15-70 B7, 603222-1, 3:54 I didn't find any serial #. It is longer than an e body. Now I know why my tires rubbed.

The transmission is OA139303 and #99129HA3 any info on these numbers? I'm guessing it's 18 spline out of a 70 b-body?

Thanks Mike

You won't find a S/N on a rear end. The '71 B-body Dana is 63" overall width, the E-body is 61 5/8". Somebody moved the perches or the springs because the E and B spring pad centers are different.

OA139303 is the last 6 digits of the 1970 B body that transmission came from.

0 = 1970

A= Lynch rd. assembly plant, they only built Satellite and Coronet B bodies there B bodies there.

139303 is the VIN sequence.

99129HA3 I'm pretty sure that is the casting number on the maincase , basically a useless number.

A long time ago a kid down the street wrapped his Charger around a tree. I bought the four speed and Dana 60 for a few hundred bucks and put them in my '65 Coronet. Sounds like the same thing happened here.

I thought about that but the transmission is a 1970 and rear end is a 71. How rare are these since they didn't make chargers or roadrunners at Lynch rd.?

Fwiw, the RR Superbird was made at Lynch,Rd.,...but the lowest VIN I've seen listed is 149xxx.

Sorry to hear this, I will take this car off your hands, it sounds like a real night mare smile , lol, just kidding, I seen many cars with the dana's out of different models and years, changed to fit, and the trannys done the same way, did you buy it as a numbers matching car?

Yeah the Dana under my Savoy is a real different unit laugh2 It started life as a B-body unit that ended up in a 68 Camaro with 2 short side axles and re-drilled with a Chevy pattern work I've since installed some 35 spline axles from an 8 3/4.
Sometimes I wish I wouldn't have cut the ladder bar brackets off of it when I think about adding more tire to the car shruggy

No I knew all the drive train had been replaced. It started life as a 383 4 speed 8 3/4. That was all gone when I bought it. Now it's just an old 426 hemi with a dana. Lol

Road runner is Satellite based and they were made at Lynch rd in 1970.

The rear came from a different car than the transmission.

Ya - there was lots of rear axle swapping going on back in the day. My '72 Cuda started out as a 340, Automatic, open diff 8-3/4. As I broke things, I upgraded. A friend of a friend had a wicked fast GTX (when it ran) that went off-roading late one night when he was going too fast and couldn't make it through a sharp turn. That poor GTX hit a tree stump and bent the unibody pretty bad. The car sat in the towing yard lot for a year and I bought it for $750. $500 went right to the towing company to release the car and I handed the other $250 to the owner. I kept the Dana, 440 and the Torqueflight and parted the rest of the car out. I broke the 8-3/4" and swapped in the Dana. That was all back in 1983ish timeframe. Many years later, I back halved the car and narrowed that Dana.

Interesting, my Dana (e-body) came out of my buddy's 68 Camero race car.
He gave me a deal for $300, but it had 5.13s and ladder bars too.

I was pitting next to my buddy and I was running a 9" Ford with 4.56 gears under my Savoy and he was looking into swapping into a 9" for the Camaro so we just traded even up beer that's your win win except the Dana needed work and the 9" was fresh.

Now that's funny since I live in central Il. I could care less about #s matching on this car since all the drivetrain has been replaced. I just was getting ready to change it to a 4:10. Just didn't know how rare they are and thought I would put it out there ahead of time just in case some #s matching car needed it.
