small block distributor/computer controlled - 01/27/16 03:33 AM

I just got the 360 in my 87 D150 (was a 318-used the old distributor).Apparently the timing is computer controlled.

What distributor should I use to bypass this crap and I wouldn't mind having vacuum advance(not equipped now)?

Simple one wire hookup or ???

Are you wanting to use a 70's regular vac adv dist setup? If so just get an ECU and a ballast & the vac adv dist & wire it up & the diagram is in the archives, just dont run (T) the yellow start wire over to the ballast like the archives show. More later when we clarify what you are after.

I am looking for simple and don't want the hassle of wiring up the old electronic setup. Prefer a ready to run plug and play setup.Being this is my first small block and having to deal with an early computer I figured someone here had been there done that and recommend a simple proven swap.

I would love to reuse my brand new plug wires but not a deal breaker.

I saw this one last night.

Well if your plug wires are the HEI type then the simplest solution is the Davis Unified Ignition setup. Install the distributor, hook up one 12 volt wire, and drive.

Old school plug wires but no problem changing them.

I have one like that and it works good. You can always go to the parts store and get a cheap rebuilt electronic dizzy and add the gm module, I've done that successfully too.
