Jeep Techs 2014 Jeep Cherokee Spark plug repacement - 12/28/15 08:08 PM

My wife took her 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk in for a few recalls. It currently has about 27000 miles on it.The dealer gave her a brochure on the 30000 mile service & it calls for replacing the spark plugs,is this necessary,I would think they would be good for at least 75000 miles.Service was $500.Is this just another dealer ripoff.
Thanks

One major reason for replacing the plugs may be so they don't "grow" attached to the heads. Lots of wrenches have seen broken off plugs when they try to remove them at up around 100 thousand miles. Even worse are the Fords that have a habit of blowing the threads out of the heads if the plugs aren't removed and lubed every once in awhile.

My '06 Magnum is on its original set of plugs with 185,000 on the engine. Still running like day one.

I am not a professional mechanic - so I wouldn't listen to me!

185k on a set of plugs.I do hope you are kidding. The 100 K is for optimum conditions and is a stretch. At the shop Ive seen cars with 100 on the plugs and they still look decent. Then ive seen them with less and they look bad.No matter what after lots of miles the gap opens and electrode straps start to go away.Ive had cars in that would not run and pulled plugs and there was pretty much nothing left to the end.On the Hemi Ram we changed then at 30K.Used platinums and a dab of antisieze which should be standar on any aluminum head. That and some diaelectric silicone on the boots.coil overs etc.500 depends on what they are doing etc.Seems pricey for plugs but irediums are what like 8 bucks each if it has them.Ive remember sssing lots of threads come out with plugs on aluminum heads because of high miles and no antisieze. On reason they said at first to use it then not to then to use it.Seems guys were loading the threads with antisieze. No need just a bit and it will be happy.Rocky

The Hemi in my GC requires a 30K change. they are using older style champion copper plugs, and many advise not to upgrade to Platinum.
After 30 K they do need to be changed to prevent misfire and CEL. frowwn

Put platinums in the 04 Hemi and they have 50K on them now.No problems.Lots of the new stuff just the recommended plugs are like 5 or 6 bucks each. Some are more.Just dd them in my brothers 06 Caravan and my cost with my sons employee discount was like 5 bucks each.On a not my kid just bought a 16 Trailhawk with the 6.Picked it up yesterday and fully loaded.Havent driven it yet.I guess he was tired of the Hemi challanger.Rocky
