Browell Bell Housing Alignment Tool

Browell Bell Housing Alignment Tool - 11/16/15 06:43 PM

I ordered this tool to check the bellhousing alignment on my Lakewood. The folks at Browell's probably don't sell a ton of these for Mopars so I had to gather a couple measurements before I could place my order. Figured I'd post about it in case someone else needs the info...

ScottSmith_Harms did a great job posting images and information about the tool and the bellhousing opening measurements here (Thanks Scott!):

The bellhousing opening is either 4.850" or 4.685"

The part of the Browell tool that bolts to the crankshaft is one of two sizes, either 2.160" or 2.043". The measurement is made by measuring the outside diameter of the "ring" at the end of the crankshaft. I have a 440 crank which measured at 2.160.

I bought one a few years ago and had to send it back and give them he correct measurements. Just used it on my car a few weeks ago, but now I'm saving up for a new flywheel so I lower the chance of losing my feet with the very slight cracks my old one has.

Wow, just seen a couple pics of that tool. That's so much easier then messing with the dial indicator.

I received the tool quickly, but its taken a while to get under the car. The bowling pin part of the tool fits snug on the torque converter register. However, the 4.850 "ring" size that I gave to Browell's is too big for the opening in my bellhousing. Looks like it may actually be 4.805" instead. To be continued...

Yep. I measured mine with two different calipers and came up with 4.80 as well.

I received the new ring turned down to 4.805" and its now the correct size. The crank end of the tool is 2.160". The tool is really nice as its "go" or "no go." Brian Browell was good to do business with as well. I gave him the incorrect measurement for the ring in the beginning. He had me send it back and he mailed it back turned down to the proper size. No charge even though the wrong size was my mistake.
