Changing bulkhead connector-no fun at all

So I've read just about every single post on here about changing bulkhead, cleaning connectors, soldering techniques etc. I've learned a lot and felt very prepared. What I was not expecting was the dash harness to only reach out just under the steering column which means I am taking each connector out, cleaning it and re-installing it into the new bulkhead......all while laying on my side reaching up under the column. I need to do some yoga to get in this position!!!!

This should be interesting. Now let's just hope I put each wire back in the right slot.

I would un-bolt the seat and get it out of there. Takes about 10 minutes to do.

I had this exact thought after finishing the first wire....seat coming out tomorrow night.....who knows....maybe I'll find some loose change or something else exciting under there

Last one I did (quite a few years ago) I pulled the dash harness OUT of the car and did the connectors one at a time sitting on the floor...I'd NEVER do it with the harness still in the car.

I agree about pulling it out for better access. Make a tool like a small screw driver and insert it on the backside of the female connectors in the bulkhead connector.Yhere is a small tab in there that holds the female connector in the bulkhead.I have. changed several over the years.Time consuming but not that difficult.

Yeah it doesn't seem like it is hard work just tedious. I can see how pulling the dash harness out would make changing the connector easier but I really don't want to add more work of removing and reinstalling dash harness. Once my connector is done, I have to re wire the entire engine bay with a new harness. Also changing battery cables, ground straps etc all at this same time. It's a 67 440 but I am upgrading it with the dual field alternator and 70's style regulator. Also think I shouldndonthe ammeter bypass while I have it all apart.

I'll have to start charging for all these clever ideas I have, let's go 50/50 on whatever turns up and for the moral support I'm providing over here too.
