Right Stuff front disc conversion kit problem?

Right Stuff front disc conversion kit problem? - 09/10/15 09:08 PM

Has anyone on here used RIGHT STUFF front disc conversion kits on their mopar yet? I put a set on my Superbird Clone. At first the brake lines/flex hoses were not long enough so they sent me hoses for a Camaro(YUK) that work fine NOW. My left brake pad makes all kinds of noise CLUNK CLUNK when I back up and then go forward. I put on the rubber band silencers with negative results. I am just wandering if anyone else has had this issue before I call them for assistance / replacement. Thanks John

I can't believe that people still buy stuff from them. I call them The Wrong Stuff. I did complete brake and fuel system and none of it was right.

Because that kit is a reproduction of the '73-'76 A-body brakes, the calipers are designed to mount toward the front of the car.

If you install calipers facing the rear, the supplied OEM style hoses will not work. Although shorter (15") flex hoses will reach, I prefer to substitute '82 Diplomat calipers, as the hose routing is much cleaner for rear mount applications.

If you hear a "clunk" while braking, you must the bend the tangs on the brake pads, so they fit tight against the caliper. This is standard procedure for any Mopar sliding caliper. See below:

BTW, only pre '73 A-bodies with sway bars and pre '70 B-bodies with sway bars require rear mount calipers.

WOW, Thanks for the information. I'll try bending the brake pad tabs. By the way. My car was an early 1970 so would it have been made with front mount calipers????? Thanks.

All '70 B-bodies equipped with disc brakes had the calipers mounted toward the front.

Does you car have a front sway bar?

Hmmm I have their kit on my 67 Belvedere and have had no issues. Rear mount provided better routing of the lines and they were plenty long for my application. I also bought their stainless brake lines and they were a perfect fit. Very happy w/the conversion and quality of the kit.

DoctorDiff, sold me the kit for my 69 RR. It worked out perfect with no issues. Calipers are mounted on the rear.
