Carrier Stand for 8-3/4 Rebuild

Carrier Stand for 8-3/4 Rebuild - 08/14/15 09:02 PM

Thinking about freshening up my 8-3/4 and wondering what others may have used to hold the carrier during the teardown and reassembly process. I was thinking that I could fab up a couple of pieces that would allow me to attach it to my engine stand, but figured I would check around here to see what brilliant ideas others have used. If you have any, pics would be appreciated.

Thanks

I just grabbed a piece of 1/4" scrap steel plate, about 6"x2" and drilled a few holes in it with the bolt spacing of the case. Had to clearance a bit for the ring gear. Bolt it to the case then chuck it in a vise---tight.

good to go.

I just built one myself from 1/2" galvanized threaded pipe. It's crude but it worked. I need to add some braces to it to form a triangle shape for more stiffness, but it worked.

I built one out of some old aftermarket spring shackles and other scrap i had. Made it so I could clamp it in the vise on the workbench, It doesn't roll around like an engine stand.

I made this crude one 25 years ago and used it for years.

Then bought this one, it holds my cly heads too.

Why spend your time and money when you can get this for just over 100?

Bolts on to your engine stand.

Because some of us would rather spend that $100 on a billet metering block, something we can't make ourselves out of scrap.

That would be about as difficult to make as a turkey cutout of your hand and not much more costly either. A piece of angle and then fab some forks or get them lazer cut for a reasonable price. twocents
