Yes, the DD book is definitely the best place to refer to. That said, not all Max Wedge car VINS are in his books.
The bigger concern, a LOT of MW and early Hemi cars were race cars that have been hacked up and re-bodied over the years. You'll need to know a lot more than just finding the VIN# in the DD book to verify the car, but it's a good place to start.
And if it's never been re bodied there should be the second set of emergency brake cable brackets welded to the floor pan or at least an indication that they were there at one time.
