NE1 installed a FAST EZ-EFI 2.0 in an A-body?

NE1 installed a FAST EZ-EFI 2.0 in an A-body? - 06/25/15 05:58 AM

I purchased a FAST EZ-EFI 2.0 for my 1970 Dart, but now that it's here I'm struggling with how to do a sanitary installation in the tight confines of the engine compartment. Even with a small block there is virtually no real estate available on the firewall to route the cable. (It requires a 2" diameter hole) and if I mount the ECU under the hood there is a snake's nest of wiring to deal with. Just wondering if anyone has any photos of an A-body, or even a B or E body, installation that might give me some ideas.

I have the EZ 1.0 on my Road Runner, so I'm not sure if the wiring is the same. I installed the ECU under the battery tray, and removed all the GM wire looming and wrapped the wiring myself. No "snake's nest" of wiring at all. There isn't much wiring with the system. Most people are surprised when I tell them it is fuel injected! Hopefully the pic attached.

One place to think about is in the wheel well forward of the tire. Hidden, plenty of room and cooler than the engine compartment, but it is wetter and debris might hit the unit unless you fab up a shield of some sort.

Thanks for the photos! They do help. I've got my battery mounted in the trunk, but my first thought had been to put the battery tray back in and use the top side to mount the ECU and hide the wiring underneath. I'm really leaning that way now that I see what you've done.

One other question, how long is the cable that you have for connecting the hand held programmer to the ECU? My kit only give me maybe a couple of feet of length. I think they left out an extension cable that is supposed to be included. Just wondering what you got with your setup.

I'm not sure what the exact length is, but it reaches from the ECU under the battery tray into the interior through the speedo cable hole and I attach the hand held under the dash. I would guess it is 5 or 6 feet long.

If you need any more pictures, just let me know.

My kit is definitely missing the extended cable to the hand held unit. :~(
I'll have to get in touch with Summit where I bought it and see if they can help me out. Did you run the cable to the interior permanently with a hole and grommet thru the firewall? Thanks again for the photos, I'm about 99% sure I'm either going use the original battery tray, or make a custom mounting tray to go in the same location.

I didn't drill a new hole in my firewall. I went through the speedo cable hole.

I have the 1.0 on my dart. just installed it and so far I really like it. I may have a few problems down the road when I start to Taylor the tunes due to my cam shaft and lack of vacuum, we will see. but it was a very easy install and the car fired up relatively easy. I only had to bring the idle up a half turn and she ran just fine. and be patient with the system. its very different than a carb. go to the fast website and join the chat forum, everything and anything you need is at your finger tips. I cant wait to really log some hours on my car.

Their is also a very large member community here that is a vault of knowledge with EFI. I will purchase the 2.0 soon and take the 1.0 and put on another car. there is an update coming for the 1.0 that give a lot more tune-ability like the 2.0.

so far the old iron likes the updates.

Good Luck and enjoy the added reliability
