64 Belvedere Door Issue

I have a 64 Belvedere wagon and the front passenger side door is stuck shut. I've managed to get the interior panel off but can't figure out what's happening. It seems to be unlocked - I can move the linkage up and down. The inside handle moves the linkage to the latch as it should but it won't budge. Does any one have any ideas or do I need to remove the fender and get it off that way. Thanks for any help I can get.

Try opening the door from the outside and lifting up on it at the same time.

Does it wiggle in an out a little, or just doesn't move at all? If it doesn't move at all, try pushing in and moving a handle to the open position at the same time. As suggested, it may be necessary to push in and up at the same time as well.

The door latch (the part that is on the body) may have moved and needs re-adjusting, which sounds simple, but can be a real pain to get it right.

If it wiggles, the body latch may be real loose and is moving with the door latch and won't dis-engage. If that is the case, you need to get something inside the post to momentarily hold the body latch stationary. Good luck with this, it can be some frustrating trouble.

I did Auto glass in the late 70's for a living...
When a Door glass broke ( tempered glass) it broke into a million pieces and I had times where a piece of that glass got into the latching mechanism ( the door jamb mechanism, NOT the handle part) and made it inoperable..

Understand here, I had to get the door open to install the new door glass..

By inoperable I mean everything worked fine, door button pushed in, all of the linkages moved, but the latch would not release...

Try looking around the latch/jamb mechanism inside the door for something causing this.. Use a screwdriver or cotter key remover ( Hook tool) and poke around to clean anything stuck or jambed into the latch...

It will be frustrating, don't give up.....

The little "star" in the door part is frozen, squirt rust buster, inside the door, back of latch, pry with crowbar to get it moving, worked for me.

Removing the fender and unbolting the hinges is a waste of time , the latch will still be stuck.

I just had this happen last week. RH rear door on a 64 Fury stuck closed. With lock button up (unlocked position), and a helper holding the door handle button in, I got in back seat and layed down and pushed with my feet on the door. Kinda light kick, without removing anything. Lubed and adjusted once open.

That's what I've always done in the past...I just didn't want to get flamed for it...

Thanks for all of the ideas guys. I'll give them a try when I have a chance. The gentle kick might be the best bet. There is no wiggle in it at all. It's almost like it's welded. Tugging on the outside handle only raises/moves the whole car. I'll let you know if I get it loose.
