Not enough caster

Put a disc brake conversion kit that came with spindles on my 66 Satellite, went to get a front end alignment and was told that they can't get enough positive caster. they want 3 degrees positive and can't get any more than 3 degrees negitive. Any ideas?

You don't get much from offset bushings, at least I never could. Maybe a degree. Looks like aftermarket control arms are your best bet.

I have done a number of cars and never got more than about 2 degrees (really more like 1.7 degrees) positive castor from stock stuff, offset bushings included.

Make sure your strut rod bushings are good, and the nuts are tightened till they stop. That could be some of it. Let us know how it goes, best of luck to you.

We don't really know what you have.

If using offset bushings, it works better to use two. Installed properly it can double the caster change.

At least your shop has the right idea.

I use two boxes (4 bushings) and get 2.5 degrees to 4 degrees of positive caster.

The one I could only get about 2.5 degrees positive was a hemi dart clone with a spacer between the K-frame to chassis and very high ride height.

The cars with over 3 degrees were lower and did not have the thicker than stock inside poly strut bushings in them. Any of you running poly strut rod bushings?

But back to original poster, only 3 degree negative sounds like something is messed up. Have you done alignments on this car before the disc conversion?

Do you have pictures of where your UCA cam eccentrics are positioned right now?

What Autox said, 4 boxes & politely make sure he knows how to install em to get max caster not max camber like they're marketed for. If that ain't enough ((caster) when done then as said the custom arms but I think you'll get there with those bushings EDIT 2 boxes & they have 2 bushings ea

No expert here, but is the back of the car raised? Messing with a suspension can create bump steer problems. When a car is raised in the back, then adjustments made to get caster back to desired amount, the bump steer goes out of whack. I have done two custom suspension builds and can say for a fact it doesn't take much to create a problem.

My car is not raised in the back. But I have a lot of caster, 5+ degrees.

I have put my car on a Longacre bump steer gauge and have very good bump steer.

3 deg neg caster is not even close to stock spec for manual steering. And stock spec for power steering is something like 0 to 1 positive.

Something is the wrong part, bent, or else.
