EZ 440 Assembly Questions - 05/28/08 01:40 AM

I am completing my 440 build that I started last year. It is a low-buck 440 for an A body.

I am preparing an order from Summit tonight:

1. Comp Cams "Pro Cam Lube". Is it acceptable for a flat tappet for initial assembly? If there is something better I would be willing to buy it. I already have a new bottle of this.

2. A high heat paint for headers?

3. Are there any real gains to be expected by going with a blocked crossover on the manifold? Mild, but not DD 440 car. I am using a S/D intake. Once again, I have the normal one, but if it will buy me a few horses I'd get one with the area blocked.

Thank you, ROB

I have always used white lube on all my assemblies and have never had a problem, a tube last me a long time. I have never had any luck with high temp paint on headers, but some claim to have over the years, prep would probably be the key, ceramic or powder coated manifolds-although tough in your set up. Blocking off the heat riser will make it harder for the choke to work on cold starts, depending on your locale that may or maynot be a concern, you would be better off leaving it functional and adding a cool can in the fuel line or a 1 inch spacer, I block mine off most of the time but I'm in Florida. There are other views and maybe this will bring them out for you.

OK. I just ordered the goodies. I guess if COMP CAMS makes the break in lube it must be right. As far as the other issues, I just bought the "best" high-temp paint and called it a day.

And yes, I used Lubriplate during assembly, and I bought a pre-luber.
