Alternator - 03/31/15 07:51 AM

I have reviewed some older (much older) posts on similar subject, but need some help. Rewiring car. New American Autowire Kit says to use single wire alternator, or an adapter is necessary with other applications. Reviews for 1 wire are either don't do it, or easiest ever. I have not started the rewire of the engine bay, but want to be ready when I get there. Feel I am getting more and more confused as I research. If I choose to go to a one wire, what have others used with success? If I choose adapter, any suggestions here? Thanks.

I did a complete rewire on my 79 truck including a one wire harness and have had no problems or ill effects because of it. The biggest concern would be finding a replacement one wire alt if you had a failure away from home.

mopar charging system is pretty self contained. you can use a mopar alt, 70's vr and all you really need is a 12 volt key on source from the wiring harness.

there is a good drawing in the tech archives, but basically you have a 12 volt source.
it splits.
one goes to the sensing line of the vr. one goes to one field of the alt.

the line out of the vr goes to the other field.

then the big wire from the alt goes to the battery pos and you are done.
almost completly independent of your wiring harness except the 12 volt source.
