What diameter do you want to run ? 15" ,17", 18" ?

7's up front and 8's out back with 235/60 and 275/60 in 15" for example is a "go-to" choice

There are tons of sizes out in 18" now so you can get what you want.. 275/40, 275/45 or 285/40 for the rear for example..also taller profiles if you want as well. A 225/45 up front or 235..

I have 18 x 10 rims on 295 x 45 series on my roadrunner and it seems to be perfect!

shoot for ~27" tall in the front, at least 27" in the back

i.e. 205/75R15's, 225/70R15's, 255/60R15's, 235/55R17's, 255/50R17's in the front, larger int he back if you like the big-n-littles look.

I like 215/75/15's up front on 15x6 and 275/60/15 rear on 15x8's (7's will work in a pinch) If you want a little more tread on the road you can go w/ 225/70/15's up front. Out back you can a big tire on a charger. I'd say even w/ the 275's you have an inch instide and out to play with.

I don't have a picture, sorry. Running Indy 500 Firehawk 215/70R15 up front and a 275/60R15 on the back. I think it looks good. I have also seen a 235/7015 up front with a 275/6015. He did that to keep the tire dia'a the same/similar. IMO the 235/70R15 up front is too tall.

IMHO, I think that anything larger than a 15" wheel looks bad on an old muscle car. It it definately noticable with anything larger, and unless you are going for the "RestoMod" look, stay with 15s.

That being said, you for sure can fit 295 and probably 305s in a stock 69 Charger wheel well as they are HUGE.

Would this setup be an exception?

IMO 15's are kinda small. They look okay, and definitely give that classic look, but I think a bigger car looks better with bigger rims. NOT 24's, or any of that kinda stuff You know what I mean. 17"-18" max, and your good

245/50-16 fronts and 275/40-17's rear (9.5" wide)

15" stuff is for a grocery cart. Anything smaller then 17" looks too small.

I personally don't like the short sidewall look. It gives it a more modern car look and makes the car look as though it is lowered. It takes the "classic" look away from the car.

That is why I said 15s with a larger tire, more rubber to fill the well rather than more wheel to get there.

If I want a lowered short rubber, big wheel look I will buy a new car.

This is just my opinion, that is what makes the world go round. If we all liked the same thing then it would be a boring world.

Attached is a picture of my old 1968 Hemi Charger that had 15" repro factory style chrome steel road wheels with 295/70s on the rear. As you can see it filled the well up pretty nicely and maintained the "classic" look.

That was a good lookin' Charger you had there Daryll. Certainly you didn't get rid of that thing!!! I gotta admit, those 15's look good on there. Those are similar to the magnum style wheels, correct? I also like the wheels with dish hubs on the green Charger too!

I gotta agree with this comment a little; those tires are too short, only about 25.7" tall to short of tires make a muscle car look like a hippo on stilts as much as too narrow of a tire....that's why I stated shoot for a 27" tall tire with the bigger diameter rims. replace those tires with say a 235/60R16 (~27.1" tall) and the rear with a 255/55R17 or 275/55R17 (28-29" tall) and then it would really look sharp.

Re: 69 charger wheel and tire size question - 01/14/09 05:30 PM

IMO anything bigger than 16's look out of place on these cars. The side wall height is very important to the look of the car. You might be able to use an 18 out back and have enough side wall but generaly big wheels w/ short side walls look kinda silly on these big muscle cars. It turns them into "match box" looking cars.

Re: 69 charger wheel and tire size question - 01/14/09 06:46 PM

I'm running 17x7" front wheels with 235/45/17 tires and
18x9.5" rear wheels with 295/45/18 tires.

My rear tires are 28.5" tall!

Previously I had 15x7s with 235/65/15s and 15x8s with 275/65/15.

Thanks for the comment.

Yes I sold it in I think 2006 as at the time I had it and my 66 Hemi Coronet 2 dr. sedan at the same time. No man needs TWO Hemi cars at the same time in my opinion.

Those wheels are what many called Magnum 500s but that is a Ford marketing name for the same wheel that Mopar called chrome steel road wheels. I am anal about that kind of thing. I don't like the term "radio delete" as it is impossible to "delete" some thing that is an option, and 69 1/2 B bodies never existed as many refer to them. Mopar never called them that and you will never see it on a title that way.

Nice car but I like the 15" look better. The big wheels the car look out of place. Just because the tire height is 28.5 doesn't mean the side wall is very high. Too each his own, If you want large wheels it's your car.

looks good, but I think I'd go for a 235/55R17 front tire (27" tall), the fronts look a little too short for my tastes

As I remember they were 235/70 on 15"X8" wheels. I think anything larger on the front with stock suspension (Hemi) they will rub on the inside.
